Dig Into Reading This Summer!
A Summer Reading Program for
Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School Rising K-5th Graders
This summer, Elizabeth Traditional Elementary School invites you to DigInto Reading and experience the growth that comes with reading all summer long! Reading opens your eyes to new worlds and characters. You can read about people in history or in an imaginary future. You can read about sports, science, music, or art. You can read about ANYTHING that interests you! Dig into Reading is also the theme for the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s summer reading program for ages 5-11 (Find more info at
Every student who completes their Dig Into Readinggoals over the summer break will be invited to attend a special celebration early in the 2013 -2014 school year at ETES. The game begins June 7, 2013 (the last day of school) and ends September 6, 2013.
Post your Dig Into Reading! chart on the fridge,in your room, or any area at home where you will be able to watch your progress throughout the summer. When all of the flower pots and shovels on your chart are filled, be sure to ask a parent to complete the Reading Confirmation slip below and turn it into your teacher by September 6. All students who turn in their Reading Confirmation slip will be invited to attend a very special celebration event in September.
- Rising kindergarteners through 2nd graders: Each time you read 10 minutes, fill in oneflower pot or shovel on your Dig Into Readingchart. If you read 20 minutes in a day, be sure to fill in two items.
- Rising 3rd through 5th graders: Each time you read 15 minutes, fill in one item on the chart.
You may count minutes reading books, magazines, newspapers, dictionaries, comic books, etc. Feel free to count the minutes of any library or camp reading programs you do as well.
