APPLICATION FOR THE POSITION OF STUDENT REGENT 2015-2017

NORTHERN ARIZONA UNIVERSITY

The Associated Students of the Northern Arizona University (ASNAU), the Graduate Student Government (GSG), and the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR) announce the selection process for the next Student Regent. This year, the Student Regent will be selected from Northern Arizona University and will serve from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2017.

Brief Description

The Student Regent represents all students from the state’s three public universities (ASU, NAU, and UA). He/she will hold the full rights granted to all members of the Arizona Board of Regents (ABOR)and voting privileges during the second year of the two-year term.

Qualifications

Each applicant must be a currently enrolled, full-time student at the Northern Arizona University with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 for undergraduates and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 for graduate students. They must also be residents of the State of Arizona. It is suggested that applicants have a general knowledge of the legislative process in the state of Arizona, a basic understanding of the functions of the Arizona Board of Regents, and a strong desire to represent students statewide.

Selection Process

Applications are due Tuesday, February 3, 2015. After an initial review of applications by the NAU Student Regent Selection Committee, eligible candidates will be asked to participate in a 30-minute interview to take place between Tuesday, February 10th and Friday, February 13th with the Committee. Applicants will then be notified by Monday, February 16thif they are invited to participate in a second round of interviews and meet and greet on Friday,February 20th, 2015. Following a review of applicants by the NAU Student Regent Selection Committee, they will select three finalists and their names will be forwarded to the ASNAU Senate for confirmation and then to the Governor’s office. The Governor then selects the nominee and forwards his/her name to the Arizona State Senate for confirmation as the new Student Regent.
