(Luk 19:10 KJVR)
You don’t get the truth. Truth gets you. Here is the truth – God gets people lost. I hope this truth lays hold of you this morning. This text reveals four truths:
II.
1. How Jesus Comes: As the Son of man.
(Heb 4:15 For we have not a high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as weare, yet without sin.)
2. Why Jesus Comes: He came to seek and to save that which was lost.
3. When Jesus comes: When you get lost
4. How God saves sinners: By getting men lost.
III.
I. In Luke 15 we have some that were lost and some that were not lost:
a. A lost sheep that was lost and restored.
Luk 15:4 Whatmanofyou,havinga hundredsheep,ifheloseoneofthem,dothnotleavetheninety and nineinthewilderness,andgoafterthat which is lost,untilhefindit?
IV.
b. A lost coin that was lost and restored.
Luk 15:8 Eitherwhatwomanhavingtenpieces of silver,ifsheloseonepiece,dothnotlightacandle,andsweepthehouse,andseekdiligentlytillshefindit?
V.
c. A man that was lost and restored.
Luk 15:24 Forthismysonwasdead,andis alive again;hewaslost,andisfound.Andtheybegantobe merry.
VI.
d. We also have some that were not lost:
a. 99 sheep that were forsaken to find the lost sheep.
Luk 15:7 Isayuntoyou,thatlikewisejoyshallbeinheavenoveronesinnerthatrepenteth,morethanoverninety and ninejust persons,whichneednorepentance.
b. 9 pieces of silver that were not lost:
c. An Elder brother which was not lost: He represents all those millions who are not lost, whom the truth can’t find, because they have to be lost in order to be found. He died and went to hell because he was never lost.
(1) John the Baptist couldn’t get these people lost.
(2) The twelve apostles couldn’t get them lost.
(3) I can’t get them lost.
(4) Only God can get you lost.
VII
II. HOW GOD GETS MEN LOST: “You can’t be saved by the law.”
VIII
a. The demands of the law is the only way you can be saved.
Rom 7:7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.
IX
Rom 7:8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.
X
Rom 7:9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.
b. I got lost on the way to the Cleveland church. I took a wrong turn. I didn’t know I was lost until I compared where I was at with the Google map and directions I had - The law points out our lost condition.
XI
c. Law Demands perfection
Beyethereforeperfect,even asyourFatherwhichisinheavenisperfect.
(Mat 5:48 KJVR)
XII
d. Law Demands punishment: The wages of sin is death (Rom 6:23). The devil ain’t after your soul – It belongs to God.
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
(Eze 18:4 KJVR)
XIII
e. There are no provisions in the law for forgiveness.
XIV
f. The law can not make men holy.
Heb 12:14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
XV
g. The law can never take away sin. The more you know the law, the more you realize how sinful you are. The law takes you deeper and deeper in the forest until you realize you are hopelessly lost and cry out “Men and Brethren, what shall we do?”
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
(Act 2:37 KJVR)
XVI
CONCLUSION: God get us lost through the condemnation of the law. When you come to yourself as the prodigal son did and realize you’re hopelessly lost, you realize you have but one hope.
