Minor/Junior/10U Division

Special Rules — 2018

1.Stealing of third base is permitted. All runners may leave base after the ball crosses the plate but only the runner on second may actually steal a base. Overthrows, including balls ending up in dead ball territory, will not entitle the runner to advance beyond third base.

2.There will be a 5-run rule. The inning will be over as soon as the 5th run crosses the plate.

3.Games will consist of 6 Innings. In the sixth inning or any extra innings there is unlimited batting. This means that the team will bat until three outs are made or in the case of the home team being up, when the winning run is scored. Exception: If an umpire declares prior to the start of an inning that “this is the last inning” then unlimited batting is in effect. No new inning may begin after 2 hours of playing time. An 11 Inch Hard softball will be used in all games.

4.The infield fly rule will beenforced. The third-strike rule will not be in effect to 1st base.

5.The pitching distance is 35 feet.

6.No batters may advance on a dropped third strike. Only the runner on second may advance, at her own risk, on a dropped third strike. But, she may not advance past third base even on an overthrow or dead ball occurring on an attempt to get her out.

7.Any pitcher hitting THREE (3) batters in one (1) inning may continue to play but may not pitch the remainder of that inning. If eligible she may return later in the game. Any pitcher hitting FOUR (4) batters in a game may continue to play but not as a pitcher.

8.A parent must work the concession stand for their teams’ home games or their team receives a forfeit! Each team has six (6) regular-season home games and also double-elimination playoffs (weather permitting). Parents must work in stand until conclusion of ALL games on all fields in that given time slot.

9.There can only be FOUR (4) infielders when the pitcher releases the ball.

10.If an infielder has possession of the ball and her feet are in the infield, a runner may only advance to a base she is in progress toward. The runner may not take an extra base after that unless there is an overthrow. A player standing on a base at the time the ball reaches the infield (again there must be possession and infielders feet must be in the infield) may not advance unless there is an overthrow.

11. Four (4) completed innings shall constitute a complete [i.e., official] game; 3½ innings if the home team is leading. All incomplete games will be made up at the discretion of the Executive Board based on scheduling availability. Any incomplete game that is rescheduled will resume at the point the original game was stopped. Resumption of the terminated game shall use the same lineups, when possible. Any players not in the original lineup shall be added to the bottom of the lineup when the game is continued. All rainouts will be rescheduled by League’s First Vice President.

12.Mercy Rule: After a team that is losing has batted three (3) times, the game will be over if the losing team is still down by 15 runs or more.

13. No player may pitch more than three (3) innings in any one game. A player will be charged with an inning pitched if she throws at least one (1) pitch to a batter. A player that has been removed from pitching may be reinserted as a pitcher one (1) time..

14. “Call Ups” will only consist of 3rd graders from other junior teams that don’t have any game conflicts with their current team. Call-ups already in the field when a roster player shows up must be allowed to complete the inning defensively. Call-ups must bat last in the batting order and cannot pitch. Call-ups must play a minimum of 2 innings in the field; however, no call-up can play more innings in the field than one of your roster players except in the event of an injury or illness.

In order to use a call up the following criteria must be met.

  1. Roster for any given game must be reduced to 10 players
  2. The Manager requesting a call up will contact the manager of any potential call up for a recommendation
  3. Parental consent must be given for any player being called up
