Welcome to Integrated Science!
This is a year-long class that will earn you a laboratory science credit. We will use and build upon many skills including reading, writing, inquiry, diagrams, model, and math in order to explore science of the world around us. The Washington State Standards and the Next Generation Science Standards will guide our study. Topics will include:
1. Scientific Processes and Investigations
2. Climate Change and Feedback Loops
3. Chemistry
4. Energy and Physics
SUPPLIES: 1 science notebook, 3-Ring Binder, ruler, classroom folder, pencils, highlighter & calculator.
CORE VALUES: Persistent, Responsible, Engaged, Positive, Respectful
Respectful: Students will show consideration, tolerance, and courtesy for all people, the school facility and equipment, and the integrity of student work.
Responsibility: Students will take ownership for their actions and choices, and will follow ethical internet conduct guidelines. Students will not plagiarize or cheat in any way, written or electronically.
Engaged: Students will participate fully every day. This includes being on time to class and working “from bell to bell”, and completing all assigned work to the best of their ability.
Positive: Students will cultivate a positive attitude for themselves and the learning community.
Persistence: Students will practice “continuing on” with their work in spite of obstacles, and will seek ways to maintain momentum in learning.
CLASSROOM RULES:
v Respect learning of yourself and class members.
v Maintain a safe learning environment.
GRADES: Grades are based on student work as evidence of learning over the entire semester. The grading rubric corresponds to levels of achievement based on standards for each assignment, homework, assessment, and project.
Grading Rubric
Element Score / 4 (Exceeds) / 3.5 (Meets) / 3.0 (Approaching) / 2.5 (Developing) / 2.0 (Beginning)Response Characteristics / Depth and content of work exceeds scope of class. / Assignment is complete and shows student thought process of all critical elements. / Assignment is mostly complete but missing elements of standard. / Effort is given towards responses, but assignment is incomplete. / Little or no work is attempted.
Final Grade:
Final Grade / A / B / C / D / FPercentage / 87.5-100% / 75 – 87.49% / 62.5 – 74.99% / 60.0 - 62.49% / 0 – 59.99%
Passing the course requires a final grade of A, B, C, or D.
ACTIVITIES: Success in science starts with ACHIEVE. Different types of activities have different expectations for what students need to do to demonstrate learning.
Class Discussionv Teacher Instruction
v Individual/Group Presentations
Group Work:
v Activities & Labs / Seatwork
v Launch
v Skill Practice
v Activity Analysis/Reflection

DAILY SCHEDULE: Each student is expected to come to class on time each day prepared and ready to learn. Each day, students will be involved in:
1. Write the day’s objective in notebook: What, How, & Why.
2. Launch
