1.3 SUBMITTALS

A. Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.

2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

3. Installation methods.

C. Shop Drawings: Showing overall dimensions (width, height). Supporting construction requirements and equipment structural attachment. Operating range and required clearances.

D. Closeout Submittals: Submit manufacturer's owner's manual, maintenance manual and master service manual. Submit manufacturer's warranty for each product.

1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Providing sole source for design, engineering, manufacturing and warranty claims handling. Company specializing in manufacturing products specified with a minimum 20 years experience.

B. Installer Qualifications: Trained, certified and approved by manufacturer, with documented experience on similar projects.

1.5 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.

B. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.

1.6 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's limits.

1.7 WARRANTY

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 BARRIER FALL PROTECTION SYSTEMS

A. Loading Dock Protection:

1. The loading dock solutions shall address OSHA regulation 1910.28 regarding "protection from fall hazards".

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.

B. Fall Protection Systems:

1. Fall protection solutions shall address OSHA regulation 1910.28 regarding "protection from fall hazards".

a. OSHA standard 1910.28(b) requires that employers shall provide fall hazard protection. This includes ensuring employees "on a walking-working surface with an unprotected side or edge that is 4 feet (1.2 m) or more above a lower level is protected from falling".

C. Gate Systems:

1. Gate systems for a walking-working elevated surface shall address ANSI regulation 6.4.3 regarding gates in guard protection systems.

a. The ANSI standard section 6.4.3 published by the Storage Equipment Manufacturers Associations reads "any gate that provides an access opening through the guards for the purpose of loading and unloading material onto a work platform shall be designed such that the elevated surface is protected by guards at all times. Gates that swing open, slide open, or lift out leaving an unprotected opening in the guarding are not acceptable."

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Vacant loading docks create a dangerous 4-feet (1200 mm) drop-off for dock personnel and material handling equipment. D. Product: Dok-Guardian as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. Helps prevent fork trucks, pallet jacks, and pedestrians from falling off a loading dock.

b. Manually positioned barrier accommodates openings up to 16 feet 5 inches (5000 mm) wide.

c. Barrier shall stop up to 30,000 lbs. (13,636 kg) with little or no damage to the safety barrier. Comply with Dok-Guardian BLAST Impact Rating Chart for complete weight and speed ratings.

d. Barrier shall fully store inside the door track protector completely out of the door opening.

2. Construction:

a. Red PVC-coated barrier shall be 44 inches (1120 mm) tall with three 4 inches (100 mm) high heavy-duty yellow polyester safety restraint straps heightens dock drop-off awareness.

b. Dok-Guardian Warden door guards shall be 47 inches (1195 mm) tall and made from 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) steel with 16 inches x 16 inches (405 mm x 395 mm) (roller side) and 16 inches x 14 inches (405 mm x 345 mm) (latching side) x 5/8 inch (15 mm) base plates providing door track protection and barrier storage.

3. Provide user integration with Rite-Hite's Dok-Lok system to ensure full-time loading dock safety.

a. The red light on the Dok-Lok control box indicates that the Dok-Guardian curtain is safely locked across the opening.

4. To extend barrier across opening:

a. At the storing Warden, grasp the handle strap of curtain and walk curtain across the opening.

b. Latch the steel bar attached to the end of the curtain into the latching bracket at the opposite side of the opening.

c. Insure the bar is fully engaged in latching bracket.

d. Note: Because the pull force may be up to 50lb, it is best to perform this operation with straight motions rather than twisting of the body.

5. To store barrier:

a. Grasp the handle strap of curtain and pull on curtain to unlatch the steel bar from the latching bracket.

b. Walk the curtain back to opposite side of the opening while supporting the curtain to allow the curtain to properly roll up.

c. Release the handle only when the curtain and bar are properly secured inside the Warden guard.

E. Product: Dok-Guardian LD as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. Helps prevent carts, pedestrians and non-motorized lift trucks from falling off the dock.

b. Manually positioned barrier shall accommodate openings up to 16 feet 5 inches (5000 mm) wide.

c. Barrier shall stop up to 5,500 lbs. (2500 kg) with little or no damage to the safety barrier. Comply with Dok-Guardian LD BLAST Impact Rating Chart for complete weight and speed ratings.

2. Construction:

a. 44 inches (1120 mm) high yellow barrier with black restraining straps heightens dock drop-off awareness.

b. Dok-Guardian LD Warden door guards shall be 47 inches (1195 mm) tall and made from 3/16 inch (4.8 mm) steel with 15.75 inch x 10.75 inch (405 mm x 273 mm) x 1/4 inch (6.3 mm) base plates on the roller and latching sides providing door track protection and barrier storage.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The Safe-T-Gate Vertical is a low cost, easy-to-operate safety gate personnel barrier that withstands 200 lb (90 kg) of force from any direction. It can be used as part of a complete barrier system to provide easy access where needed, or as a stand-alone product for other area protection applications. In addition, use the Safety Gate Vertical as a low cost solution to help meet the requirements of OSHA Standard 1910.28 regarding "protection from fall hazards". Delete if not required.

F. Product: Safe-T-Gate Vertical as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. Gate shall be upward-biased in fully raised position, and downward-biased in fully lowered position.

b. Barrier shall stop a 200 lb (90 kg) load.

c. Safety gate shall accommodate openings from 4 feet (1525 mm) up to 12 feet (3050 mm) wide.

d. Hardware shall be included for installation.

2. Construction:

a. Two steel post columns 43 inches (1090 mm) high x 5 inches (125 mm) diameter.

b. Two 7 inches (180 mm) high x 3 inches (75 mm) wide PVC rails.

c. Counterbalance system assists operation, requiring less than 25 lb (10 kg) of force.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Separating and defining large work areas, walkways, and inside loading docks has long been a challenge for Plant Operations and Safety Managers. Oftentimes, barriers in these areas need to be easily removed on a temporary basis for unobstructed access to the area. Because plant operations change over time, flexibility and the ability to relocate barriers at minimal cost is also important. The SpanGuard product provides a substantial visual and physical barrier. It is difficult for personnel to go through or over because of its solid curtain and height above floor. Delete if not required.

G. Product: Spanguard as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. 36 inches (915 mm) curtain height, 48 inches (1195 mm) off floor in 30 feet (9150 mm) and up to 60 feet (18300 mm) units. Refer to drawings for lengths indicated or required.

b. Barrier shall stop up to 5,000 lbs. (2273 kg) with little or no damage to the safety barrier. Comply with the SpanGuard BLAST Impact Rating Chart for complete weight and speed ratings.

c. Storage cylinder shall be rotated easily by one person 90 degrees to facilitate storage.

d. Unit shall incorporate a built-in crank and tightening mechanism that has a 20:1 gear ratio for ease of operation.

2. Construction:

a. Curtain shall be constructed of black PVC-coated vinyl mesh with two 4 inches (100 mm) high black and yellow polyester straps and fiberglass rods on 10 feet (3050 mm) centerlines.

b. Curtain shall be stored in self-contained, 14 inches (355 mm) diameter, ABS-covered storage cylinder when retracted.

c. Posts shall be 48 inches (1219 mm) tall with 4 inches x 4 inches (100 mm x 100 mm) posts and made from 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) steel with 10 inches x 10 inches (255 mm x 255 mm) base plates.

d. Posts base shall be mounted with four 3/4 inch (19 mm) x 5-1/4 inches (145 mm) anchor bolts supplied by manufacturer.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** GuardRite Strap Barrier System is a unique way to protect large work areas or long walkways in your facility. Consider this system for areas that are currently designated by only a yellow painted line. It provides an economical, effective visual and physical barrier to help keep people and material handling equipment out of harm's way. Straps can span up to 60 feet (18300 mm) between permanently mounted steel posts and can be easily removed for unobstructed access. Delete if not required.

H. Product: GuardRite Strap as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. Double posts shall stop up to 30,000 lbs. (13,636 kg). Comply with the GuardRite Strap BLAST Impact Rating Chart for complete weight and speed ratings.

b. Double-Strap Restraining Kit includes two 6 inches (150 mm) wide yellow polyester restraining straps, two tensioner assemblies with hardware, a latch bar and latch bracket with hardware, and it is available in increments of 10' (3050 mm) for openings from 10 feet (3050 mm) up to 60 feet (18300).

c. Provide installation per deflection chart.

d. Optional Storage System available that includes a 1 inch (25 mm) round x 8 inches (200 mm) high handle, 1/8 inch (3 mm) thick steel support brackets, and 13-1/2 inches (4115 mm) projection by 56 inches (1420 mm) high.

2. Construction:

a. Single posts are 48 inches (1195 mm) tall by 5 inches (125 mm) x 5 inches (125 mm) x 3/16 inch (4.75 mm) thick steel with yellow powder-coat paint.

b. 10 inches (255 mm) x 10 inches (255 mm) x 1/2 inches (12 mm) steel base plate with four 3/4 inch (19 mm) x 5-1/4 inches (135 mm) anchors per post provided.

c. Reinforcement posts available. Same as single posts, plus two connecting, bolt-together 3 inches (75 mm) x 3 inches (75 mm) x 21 inches (530 mm) steel arms with hardware.

2. Unit: Single rail system 17 inches (430 mm) high.

3. Unit: Double rail 43 inches (1090 mm) - high.

4. Bolt units together and anchor the mounting posts to the floor as indicated or required.

5. Rails are 11-3/4 inches (300 mm) high with up to 10 feet (3050 mm) long centerline with yellow powder-coat paint.

6. Posts are 5 inches x 5 inches x 3/16 inch (125 mm x 125 mm x 4.75 mm) steel with 10 inches x 10 inches x 5/8 inch (255 mm x 255 mm x 4.8 mm) steel base plates with yellow powder-coat paint..

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** GuardRite Flex Barrier System is a cost-effective way of separating areas in your facility. Modular design makes it easy to fit many configurations. Delete if not required.

J. Product: GuardRite Flex as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. System shall absorb incidental impacts and return to original shape.

b. Barrier shall stop up to 5,000 lbs. (2273 kg) with little or no damage to the safety barrier. Comply with the GuardRite Flex BLAST Impact Rating Chart for complete weight and speed ratings.

2. Construction:

a. Column: Steel columns shall provide solid support.

b. Rail: 7 inches high x 3 inches wide (180 mm x 75 mm) rails.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Option. Delete if not required.

c. Add on rail shall be 9 feet 6 inches long x 6 inches high x 3 inches wide (2895 mm x 150 mm x 75 mm), to create a four-rail or full-stacking system as indicated or required.

1) Add on rail, requires 43 inches (1090 mm) full-height rail support, which shall connect to steel post columns with six self-tapping screws.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** The innovative GuardRite Sure-Stop Barrier System is a smarter protection system when it is critical to have a barrier that must stop a fork truck. The gusseted GuardRite Sure-Stop can stop a fork truck with little or no deflection. 1. Modular Design:

a. 18 inches (450 mm), 24 inches (610 mm), 36 inches (915 mm), 48 inches (1195 mm) or 60 inches (1525 mm) lengths as indicated or required.

b. Concrete anchors provided by manufacturer.

c. 8 inches (200 mm) high by 5 inches (125 mm) deep by 3/16 inch (4.75 mm) thick steel.

2. Performance: Barrier shall to stop up to 29,800 lbs. (13545 kg). Comply with the GuardRite SureStop BLAST Impact Rating Chart for complete weight and speed ratings

3. Construction:

a. 3/8 inch (9.5 mm) gussets support the steel plate and provide durability and strength

b. Safety yellow powder coated paint to provide high visibility.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** A Rack Supported Safety Gate that Provides Full Time Protection for Elevated Work Areas. The RacKeeper Safety Gate is perfect for multilevel pick modules or any other elevated work area that requires fall protection within a racking system. Delete if not required.

L. Product: RacKeeper as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. Dual reciprocating barrier shall ensure full time safety at the edge of a mezzanine platform.

b. Link bar design shall ensure that both gates work in unison.

c. No chains or cables required nor acceptable in design.

d. Complies with applicable OSHA, ANSI, and IBC standards.

2. Construction:

a. Rail heights of 21 inches (530 mm) and 42 inches (1070 mm).

b. 3 inches (75 mm) track and nylon rollers shall provide smooth operation.

c. 10 gauge steel frame.

d. Mounting brackets shall provide full time track protection and flexibility during installation.

M. Product: GateKeeper as manufactured by Rite-Hite.

1. Design:

a. Operation: Manual.

b. Operation: Automatic.

c. Dual reciprocating gate shall ensure full time safety at the edge of a mezzanine platform by keeping one gate closed at all times.

d. Design shall meet applicable OSHA, ANSI and IBC standards and address ANSI standard MH28.3 6.4.3 -2009.

e. Saf-T-Latch shall prevent workers from raising the gate from inside the work zone, helping prevent an employee from falling from the mezzanine while working the load.

f. Link bar design shall ensure that both gates work in unison.

g. Toeboard shall prevent material from accidentally being pushed from an elevated space to a lower level.

2. Construction:

a. Steel side frames shall provide built-in track protection.

b. 3 inches (75 mm) track and nylon rollers shall provide for smooth operation.
