Minority Student Award Application

The Dallas Morning News is the sponsor of five awards to The Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference,
to be awarded to minority students. Each award includes registration, meals, and two nights lodging

(July 17 and 18) at the Hilton DFW Lakes Executive Conference Center in Grapevine, Texas.

Eligibility:

· Enrolled in community college or university with a minimum 3.0 GPA

· Spring 2015 graduates are eligible

· Must be able to attend entire week-end of the Mayborn Conference scheduled July 17-19, 2015

Requirements:

Complete this form, sign it and attach the following items:

· A one-page letter on why you want to attend the Mayborn Conference

· An unofficial university transcript

· Two reference letters – preferably by faculty or someone acquainted with the applicant’s desire to become a writer

· A writing sample (maximum of 1000 words) – published or unpublished

· A note of thanks written to the sponsor by the awardees is requested to be sent by August 15, 2014,

Deadline for applications is April 15, 2015 and notification will be made by phone or email on or before April 29, 2015.
