ThesenotesprovideguidancetoOfficialVeterinarians(VI’s)and exporters andshouldhavebeenissuedtoyou together withexportcertificates (which may come in one two or more parts). TheseNotesforGuidance(NFG)arenotintendedto operateas a standalonedocumentbutinconjunctionwithcertificates.
Exportersarestronglyadvisedtoverify the requirementsoftheimportingcountrybycontactingtheveterinary authorities, ortheirrepresentativesinIreland,inadvanceofeach consignment.
1.Scopeofthe Certificate
The associated Exporthealthcertificatemaybeusedfortheexport of bovine semenfromIreland.
All relevant parts of the health certificates and, if applicable supplementary certificates, mustbesigned,datedandstampedonthedayof shipment.
2.CertificationbyanOfficialVeterinarian (VI)
Thiscertificatemaybesignedby a VeterinaryInspector (VI)oftheDepartment of Agriculture, Food and Marine (whoisanOfficialVeterinarian).
VIsmustsignandstampthehealthcertificatewiththestampinanyinkcolourOTHERTHAN BLACK.
A certifiedcopyofthecompletedcertificatemustbesenttoLivestock Breeding Section, Department Of Agriculture, Food and Marine, GovernmentBuildings, Farnham Street, County Cavan H12 D459.
TheVIshouldkeep a copyforhis/herown records.
3.Obtaininganimport permit
Theexporter/agentshouldbeawareoftherequirementsoftheimportingcountryparticularlywithrespecttoanyrequirementforanimportpermit, the detail of which should be included, if relevant, in the health certificate.
4.Laboratory tests
TheVImustensurethatanylaboratorycarryingoutpre-exporttestingisofficiallyapprovedforthis purposebythe Department Of Agriculture, Food and Marine.
InIrelandthemajorityofpre-exporttestingiscarriedoutat official laboratories run by the Department Of Agriculture, Food and Marine, and in particular, at the Central Veterinary Laboratory, Backweston Campus, Stacumney Lane, Celbridge, County Kildare.
5.Sealingofthetransport container
Thesemenmustbesecuredwithin a cryogeniccontainerby a tamperproofsealappliedinsuch a waythatthecontainercannotbeopenedwithoutbreakingtheseal.Thenumberonthe sealmustbeenteredat the appropriateparagraphonthehealth certificate.
