President’s Message
Hello Everyone,
We had our first ride January 12, which was held in Sylmar. The Doc Larsen, Bert Bonnett Chili Ride was a huge success. Look for my write up in Horsin’ Around.
It is with great sadness to announce that Liz Blackwelder passed away on January 15th. Liz was one our greatest trail warriors of our time. Her accomplishments are way too many to mention at this time. Look for a write up devoted to Liz in our March Bulletin. Our sympathies go to her family. Liz will be remembered in our prayers and she will never be forgotten.

April 13th is our Vasquez Rocks Ride. This is a beautiful ride, which traverses the incredible rock formations that makes Vasquez Rocks very famous. Many movies have been filmed there. The ride is about two and a half hours. However, it is still a work out which includes some moderate hills. Afterwards, we will trailer over to Maria Bonitas (Mexican Restaurant) located a short distance from Vasquez Rocks. This ride is open to non-riders also. We’ll meet at Maria Bonita’s around 12:30 p.m. I must know if you will be attending, so I can set it up with the restaurant.

General Meeting was held January 16th at Mi Casitas. Our Past President, Gwen Allen installed the officers. Thanks Gwen! We enjoyed a delicious dinner, discussed Corral business and had a great time. As I looked at my dear friends that attended the meeting, I realized what Corral 22 is all about. It’s the camaraderie that has endured for the last sixty-eight years. It has been an honor to serve as your President.

Our Doc Larsen, Bert Bonnett Chili Ride was held January 12, 2014. Thirty riders showed up to enjoy the ride led by our Trail Coordinator, Tiffanie Bailey. The weather was a bit nippy and the wind blew with a 10% chance of rain. The ride lasted about four and a half hours. We rode through the scenic trails that Doc Larsen and Bert Bonnett had put in and maintained. Arriving back at the staging area we all agreed it was a great ride and we were hungry! The San Fernando Ranger Park patio was all set up for us. We met up with our non-rider members, which totaled around fifty people. We dined on prize-winning chili, along with delicious corn bread and pineapple up side down cake. A special thanks to Alan Johnson, Captain of the San Fernando Valley Rangers and the Rangers themselves for allowing us the use of their patio. John Richardson and Susy Ellinger for making the awesome chili. Tina Pollard for making the cornbread and dessert. Bill Pollard working the Goody Wagon. Walt Conner helped cook and making his special coffee. Thanks to Terry Kaiser for drag riding.
We are very lucky to have known and ridden with Doc Larsen and Bert Bonnett. Two incredible men, which touched all of our lives and did so much for the equestrians. We will be forever grateful!
