Inclusion is not just about disability but is about including and welcoming ALL individuals.
Universal Design Principals: a lens into making our environment more accessible:
1.Equitable use - be fair
2. Flexibility in use - be included
3.Simple and intuitive - be smart
4.Perceptible information - be independent
5.Tolerance for error - be safe
6.Low physical effort - be active
7.Size and space for approach and use - be comfortable.
2. Reminder: DC kits to stay within club for future DCs to use
3. Membership fees 2014 - 2015
Increase in fee of $5.00 for all membership categories

Early bird membership of $115.00, normally $120.00, for junior members and $135.00, normally $140.00, for associates and adult members who submit membership returns between May 15 and June 30th
Pro rata will now be calculated from January 1st.

PCAV Zone affiliation fee will be $150.00 including GST for 2014 - 2015.
PCAV Club affiliation fees will remain at $20.00 including GST for clubs with less than 20 riders and $50.00 for clubs with more than 20 riders.

4. Adult riding membership had a two year trial and clubs who offered this category of membership were surveyed. Not one club wished to withdraw this category and the feedback was positive and mainly assisted many small clubs in country areas to remain viable.
Trial has now been finalised and the adult membership category is to remain as a permanent PCAV category for clubs who choose to provide it.

5. Reminder: any clubs who have or may have local government issues please advise PCAV office because they may be able to offer assistance.

From January 1st 2015 any club with 20 or more riders must have at least one current NCAS Equestrian qualified coach coaching at each club rally.

11. Bylaws with updated rule changes now available and effective. Please note Gear Rules 15.7 Horse Leg Wear : now reads - “ ……Only back boots as described below may be used in showjumping competitions or the showjumping phase of Horse Trials”.

Zone Chief Instructor’s Report

Activities since November meeting:

Friday January 17t.hK B pre-assessments. We had three riders, Carly Heislers from Wonthaggi Pony Club, Sophia Landy from Tarwin Lower Pony Club and Adeline Collins from Corner Inlet Pony Club all completed a pre-assessment for their B test with Bev Shandley and Sally Francis. They are all encouraged to keep working on riding, jumping and theory and present for the test in next 6-12 months. Well done girls.

Sunday Feb 9th: WGZ Dressage and Show Jumping Clinic at Berry’s Creek Pony Club.

Under hot and windy conditions we started the clinic. Within 25 minutes Adam Wootten was notified of a fire very close to his property and he had to return home to look after his horses and property. We were lucky to have Emily Hill riding on the day and she kindly took over the morning sessions. The riders despite the heat got a lot out of it.

Mary Longden gave riding sessions and then let riders ride a test getting feedback as they rode. During lunch Mary discovered she too had fires nearby. She s ran a brief theory session and left early. The final dressage group of Zoe Waller, Chloe Aldie, Caitlyn Porter and Jessica Ronalds all had to miss their lesson as we decided the weather was too bad and people should go home with the fires popping up all over the place. They showed great sportsmanship and grit in accepting the decision.

I will have a big rethink about running Clinics in February again. The forecast had looked OK for Sunday but conditions changed and it really wasn’t a day to be away from home. Thanks to Berry’s Creek Pony Club for hospitality on the day.

We were successful with funding for a State government funded country action grant for $3500 to run coaching clinics this year with Sally Francis, Megan Jones and Mary Longden.

This project will enhance the capacity of pony clubs to provide good quality instruction by developing the coaching skills of their coaches and develop skills of senior pony club members. Riders who have demonstrated an interest and commitment to developing their coaching skills will be eligible to participate in the course which will run over 5 separate days over the year. Three renowned coaches will deliver 6 hour sessions as part of the project. Followed up by a day at a pony club rally across the region with two coaches with significant experience with coaching riders with disabilities. These sessions will focus on developing participants’ ability to ‘see’ common rider faults, and their capacity (through a ‘tool box’ of exercises) to address those faults. Emphasis will also be given to developing their capacity to coach riders with physical and/or disabilities. Pony Club is committed to inclusive coaching and this program will develop the skills of coaches to coach riders of “all abilities”.

C Certificate

The next date for C Certificate practical is on Saturday April 5th and nominations will

close Monday 24th March. Nomination form can be found on the Facebook page, have

been emailed to clubs and will be available from the website. Venue will be determined

from where majority of the nominations come from. Please ensure candidates workbooks

are also handed in to allow time for them to be marked before the day.

General Business

We received expression of interest to host the zone Games, Flat & Musical qualifiers

from 2 clubs Warragul and Drouin and we have decided to go with Drouin this year

and to be held on the 27rh April. This year there will be a pairs competition introduced

as an extra event.

WGZ Horse Trials - Corner Inlet will host the first event next March. We have arranged for

course designer Mick Pineo to come and look at Corner Inlet and Meeniyan to advise on their

cross country courses and will come at a later date to look at Bunyip.

Expression of interest - we are looking for a club to host the 2015 State Dressage and

Showjumping competition. You will need room for 3 showjumping rings and 6 dressage arenas.

Can be held over 2 days. Due date is 31st March.

Paul Seuren reported on the Junior Committee meeting and said the members would like to see

more fun and interaction with members than the competitiveness. Members will go back to their

clubs and ask their members what they would like to see happen and report back.

Please report to Darrelyn any concerns with riders who might not be competing in the

correct grade, particularly riders not grading up after consistent placing.

Discussion on grading at club level.

Discussion on horse trial rules – qualification and change to rules.

Affiliation fees will remain the same for 2014-15. Some clubs have had new members start

after the financial year and they need to check their memberships and pay the affiliation

fees for the new members.

Next Meeting 16th April at Austral Hotel Korumburra 8pm
