State 4-H Horse & Pony Advisory Committee Meeting

February 7, 2009

Purdue Campus

West Lafayette, Indiana

The meeting was opened by President Peggy Naile. Those in attendance were Colleen Brady, Dianna Hatcher, Cindy Keene, Sara Shelton, Patty Shelton, and Peggy Naile in person. Those attending via Web Cast were; Cathy Boerste, Melva Stamberger, Darla Greer, Neasa Kalme, Ginger Furnish, and Laura Whitsitt.

The minutes were accepted with a couple of amendments. Motion made by Neasa Kalme and seconded by Laura Whitsitt.

Colleen gave the specialist’s report:

January 24, 2009 - Beginning Horse Judging Camp it was a one day event held at Lebenon, Indiana. The event went well.

February 7&8, 2009- The advanced Horse judging camp was currently being held at Purdue. There was some discussion on making the advanced a bi-annual event and keep the beginning camp an annual event.

March 28 & 29 Horse bowl & Hippology Contest at Purdue. There will be a novice division in the public speaking and demonstrations with no time penalty.

April 3-5, 2009 - Hoosier Horse Fair at Indianapolis

Versatility will be on the 3rd, Groom & Clean on the 4th, and Judging on the 5th

Volunteers are needed contact the IHC or Colleen Brady.

Indian Horse Council is offering Horse Owner’s Workshop Grants available on the website.

May 2, 2009 is the State Horse and Pony Judging Contest-Hendricks County- If you are having you area contest the weekend before please get the entries in to Colleen by Monday.

June 10-12 Animals Sciences Workshops at Purdue- offering both small and large animal workshops

June 15-19- State Horsemanship Camp- Entry forms are available on-line now

2009 Indiana State Fair-

The schedule is now available on-line @

All exhibitors must bring their yellow form with them to the state fair to be checked in. Also all exhibitors will receive their tickets in the mail.

Volunteers to help at the horse show are welcome. To volunteer contact Colleen or Jim Baker.

The Horse and Pony Volunteer Conference held in Indianapolis in October went well. There were about 60 in attendance. There was a committee established to organize the 2009 conference. Those volunteering were Peggy Naile, Sara Shelton, Laura Whitsitt and Rhonda Helming. Possible October date.

The 2009 Judges School will be held in Kentucky in November.
