A Surgeon is someone who is responsible for correcting deformities, repairing injuries, preventing diseases, and improving body functions of patients. The main objective and the responsibility are to provide effective and efficient surgical services to patients. A general surgeon is someone who performs various types of surgeries. Duties and Responsibilities

There are a wide range of duties and responsibilities which are required in a person to do the job of a surgeon:

  • The surgeon has the prime responsibility to determine the necessity of surgical operations and the best suitable operating procedure.
  • He or she has to learn the patient’s medical history regarding certain allergies and anticipating the expected results after the operation.
  • It is needed to decide the operating procedure and the appropriate surgical instrumentsdepending on the patient’s physical condition.
  • He or she has the responsibility to provide proper information and risks related with surgery to the patients.
  • The surgeon has the duty to analyze the patient’s physical condition by managing, planning, and scheduling the surgery.

  • The surgeon is responsible for conducting the sufficient planned weekly ward rounds.
  • It is needed to oversee the monitoring care, checking progress, and allowing early discharge of patients under care.
  • He or she is responsible for the issuing a discharge summary to every patient prior to leaving the hospital.
  • He or she needs to maintain the effective working relationships with patients without any cultural differences while dealing with patients.
  • He or she has to consult with the patient referrals and procedure outcomes with general practitioners and medical staff.
  • It will be needed to perform the tasks related to the clinical staff and junior medical staff.
  • The surgeon has to maintain the collaboration with the administrative staff and management staff.
