Job Title:ACCOUNTANT

Department:Support Services - Finance

Responsible To:Finance Director

Location:NCVS, Mansfield Road, Nottingham, NG1 3FB

Hours:37.5 hpw – Monday – Friday (may be required to work weekends)

Salary:Circa £25,000 - 30,000pa dependant on qualifications, experience and training

JOB PURPOSE:

  • To manage the entry and reconciliation of all ledger transactions
  • To be responsible for delivery of monthly management accounts, forecasts and budgets and monthly payrolls
  • To provide effective management and leadership of the Finance ledger team (Banking and Payroll Assistant, Accounts Assistant and the Purchase Ledger Assistant)
  • To deputise for the Finance Director and provide cover for the Performance and Reporting Accountant

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Work closely with the Finance Director to ensure financial accounts, monthly management accounts, forecasts and budgets are completed and distributed to an agreed timetable.
  1. Assist the Finance Director in the support of budget holders and managers in answering queries, management of budgets, preparation of forecasts and the recognition of income in the correct period.
  1. Management of payroll, banking & cash, sales and purchase ledger processes.
  1. To calculate and post monthly period-end journal accruals / prepayments, ensure all control accounts are reconciled, continuously monitored and outstanding entries are resolved or understood in order to ensure timely completion of the month end
  1. Ensure the accurate and timely completion and submission of all PAYE/NIC/VAT reporting and payments and manage the financial aspects of our pension schemes, including all financial issues relating to auto enrolment.
  1. Support the Finance Director in any dealings with internal and external auditors, HMRC and any other third party as required and act as the primary point of contact during anyabsences of the Finance Director.
  1. Liaise with other members of staff from all areas of the Association providing financial information, support and advice and act as the primary point of contact during any absences of the Finance Director.
  1. Manage and develop allocated staff including undertaking regular 1 to 1’s, APAR’s, managing performance, recruitment, monitoring leave, managing absence and encouraging the continuous development of the team.
  1. Continuously monitor and review existing financial controls and procedures and submit updates to the Finance Director for review and implementation.

To work in a flexible way to ensure that workload is completed and to undertake any other jobs commensurate with the seniority of the post.

To exercise discretion in the performance of the duties of the post, to use best practice and to ensure the effective and efficient use of resources.

Line Management Responsibility:

Direct line management of the Banking and Payroll Assistant, Accounts Assistant and the Purchase Ledger Assistantplus other staff as directed. The postholder will also be expected to supervise temporary staff, casual workers and work placements as required.
