I. Activities and Achievements

Activity defined by the MCG/LoA / Achievement
Obtain the legal document & establish the Resource Centre for Peace (RCP). / The local government of Borama, has requested a letter from MOI, which we have obtained. We have delivered the Sealed official request to Borama’s mayor. We are hoping to receive the authorization within next week
Stakeholders' introductory meeting / We have held our stakeholder introductory meeting in Borama,
We have introduced the programme. The DSCs, some of the councilors and the Governor attended the meeting. They welcome the programme, however inquired about the sustainability of the programme.
Meeting of the new local government / We have met the new local government of Hargeisa; we have given them a brief introduction of the programme. Also we have requested the renovation permit for Hargeisa’s RCP
Visit to Borama’s Jail as per the request of the Governor of Awdal / We have met the Director of Borama’s jail along with the governor, because they are starting a similar program as Y4C programme. They have hired a skills facilitator to train the youth in Jail. In hope that these youth will never return to prison and that their newly acquired skills will help them get a job. The governor has requested that we work closely with the Director of the prison in order to avoid duplication of effort.

II. Challenges and Recommendations

Challenges / Recommendations
Borama’s prison running similar program / It will be great if we can work in collaboration with the prison and compare best practices, also if we could possibly to a certain degree extend the program to those youth who are still in prison
MOI & MOJabsence / It would have been absolutely wonderful if MOI and MOJ could assist Borama’s stakeholder meeting – their insight would have been value added
Borama’s RCP being small / The DSC has raised the issue that the centre might be too small, compare to the number of youth they wish to welcome into the program, once the initial group graduate from the programme; however the local government has only this building available, but it suggested that if a bigger facility with all the required amenities could be built in other sustain the programme
Getting the victims blessings / It would be an asset to sustainability of the programme if we could involve the victims during the pardon and probation process.
