2Minutes of previous meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting were agreed subject to the following amendment:

Point 6 Bullet 1 - Amended to state: “Norma reported in Bro Morgannwg they are working with the Women and Children Directorate on advocacy for children”.

4Individual contribution of top priority to form action plan

AMC reported on how SEW Regional Network had identified priorities they would like to address over the next year, list compiled see Doc 1.

It was decided that M&WR would do similar exercise and compile their priorities – group exercise, list compiled see Doc 2.

5Presentation Norma Owen

NO provided the group with an overview of what was happening on PPI in Bro Morgannwg (Appendix 1). The chair thanked NO on behalf of those present.

6Round robin – current challenges/problems

Lengthy discussion regarding challenges/problems.

  • Race Equality - CC- highlighted the need to look at where PPI sits with the Act so that it can be incorporated into the action plan.
  • How to recruit recent users - ZM provided feedback on what benefits are of having independent Mental Health Voluntary Worker to ensure involvement of mental health users in the early stages of planning. Could we build on work being done by CHC? GP informed the group how the cancer network involves users.
  • How to canvass view of minority groups – Getting knowledge base, broadening it and developing action plan.
  • Information systems – How we can learn from others, areas of good practice, NHS Direct are happy to share some of their manuals on how to signpost individuals. AMC to compile database of manuals etc.

ACTION: AMC

  • Customer care with difficult users: Building on customer care training in Bro Morgannwg and the NHS Direct module and NICE Guidance on Violence & Aggression.

7Taking forward the objectives

The group agreed to look at two specific areas of interest identified from the group exercise:

a)PPI Training

b)Recruitment of Users

It was also agreed that the Group would go back to their individual organisations and discuss the pros/cons of developing a regional PPI bulletin/magazine or would this cause confusion to users?

Meeting: 4th July, Carmarthen LHB, 10.30 am

Group 2 to look at Recruitment of PPI

Membership: Alison Clement, Ruth & Alison (NHS Direct), Swansea representative

Meeting: 8th July, Carmarthen LHB, 1.00 pm (bring own lunch)

Groups 1 & 2 to meet,.. through what tools available. Issues to address, aims, objectives, draft way forward September 2005.
