Dear Reader,

Nominations for the Basketball NSW Annual Awards are open to persons, teams, Associations, and Conferences, which are involved at NSW and/or Conference and/or Association levels, or who represent New South Wales at Basketball Australia events.

The Award Categories and Criteria are listed in this document.

Excluded from nominating for awards are:

  1. Performances of teams, individuals, clubs in NBL, WNBL, ABA Leagues other than the Waratah League
  2. Persons/teams 20 years of age or older are not eligible for Junior Awards.

The Staff of NSWBA who make contributions outside of their staff role can be considered for an award.

PLEASE discuss the Awards with your Board and Committee to ensure that your Association nominates the right person/team for the Basketball NSW Annual Awards.

The Annual Awards Nomination Form is a “fillable form”, which means you can complete this form on your computer.There is no need to print this form and write your nominations by hand.

  1. MERIT AWARDS

Basketball NSW shall recognise and acknowledge individuals or organisations who have given service to Basketball NSW at the State and/or National level, who may not otherwise qualify for Life Membership of NSWBA.

This recognition and acknowledgment shall be known as Basketball NSW Merit Award.

The guidelines for Merit Award nominees shall be:

1.1.Former State/National team players who have continued to support Basketball NSW at the State level over an extended period.

1.2.Any player, coach, referee, manager, sports trainer, or administrator who has served Basketball NSW over a long period of time.

1.3.Any person who, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of NSWBA, has brought honour and achievement to Basketball NSW at the State, National or International level.

1.4.Any company or individual who by their continued financial support or by single financial contribution, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of NSWBA, qualifies for the Merit Award.

  1. ANNUAL AWARDS

The criteria for the Annual Awards shall be that, nominees are required to:

  • Be a registered member of BNSW
  • Have represented Basketball NSW in the year of nomination, and/or
  • Participated in Basketball NSW Competition(s)/events.
  • If an association;they must be financial with BNSW

Note:

  • Employees of Basketball NSW are not eligible to be nominated for an Annual Award in areas of their respective employment.
  • Excluded from this criteria are the performances of teams, individuals, Clubs in NBL, WNBL, and Leagues other than the Waratah League.

The Annual Awards are:

2.1.Player Awards:

2.1.1.Junior Male(under 20 years)

2.1.2.Junior Female(under 20 years)

2.2.Team of the Year

2.2.1.Association Team

2.3.Coach of the Year

2.4.Administrator of the Year

2.4.1.Administrator of the Year – Paid

2.4.2.Administrator of the Year - Volunteer

Note: Nomination isrequired to be based on activities for an administrator in either a:

  • Basketball NSW Association/Conference, or
  • Basketball NSW activity(ies), or
  • Basketball NSW Competition
  • Basketball Australia Event

2.5.Volunteer of the Year:

2.5.1.Junior – Male or Female volunteer 21 years and under

2.5.2.Senior – Male or Female volunteer 22 years and over

2.6.Most successful Association on court:

2.6.1.Basketball NSW Junior Championships

2.6.2.Waratah League

2.7.Association Coaching Program of the Year

This award shall be divided into two categories:

2.7.1.Associations over 2,000 members in registrations

2.7.2.Associations under 2,000 members in registrations

Note: The criteria for a nominee shall be as follows:

a)Must be financial with BNSW

b)Coaching numbers active in the year of nomination:

  • Club Coach, Association Coach, High Performance Coach

c)Upgrades in year of nominations:

  • Club Coach to Association Coach
  • Association Coach to High Performance Coach

d)Numbers of Coach Educators in the Association.

e)Number of Coaching Courses conducted by the association, plus numbers attending each course.

f)Outstanding achievements or activities by the association coaches or group.

g)The association has an active coaches’ committee and/or Director of Coaching.

h)Number of domestic association teams (juniors to seniors).

i)Number of representative association teams (Under 12 to seniors).

2.8.Association Referee Program of the Year

This award shall be divided into two categories:

2.8.1.Associations over 2,000 members in registrations

2.8.2.Associations under 2,000 members in registrations

Note: The criteria for a nominee shall be as follows:

a)Must be financial with BNSW

b)Referee numbers active in the year of nomination:

  • Youth (1-5), Level 1 (C-B), Level 1 A, Level 2, Level 3, FIBA

c)Upgrades in year of nominations:

  • Youth (1-4)
  • Youth 4 to Youth 5
  • Youth 5 to Level 1 (C-B)
  • Level 1 B to Level 1 A
  • Level 1 A to Level 2
  • Level 2 to Level 3
  • Level 3 to FIBA

d)Numbers of RefereeCoaches in the Association.

e)Number of Referee Courses conducted by the association, plus numbers attending each course.

f)Outstanding achievements or activities by referees.

g)The association has an active referees’ committee and/or Referees Advisor.

h)Number of domestic referees.

i)Number of referees who officiated representative basketball.

Recognition Award for outstanding contribution to women’s basketball. Open criteria to recognise the outstanding efforts of an Individual and a team; and/ or association and/or organisations to women’s basketball.

The following major awards are determined by Basketball NSW, there are no nominations required.

3.1.Champion Association of NSW

This award shall be divided into two categories:

3.1.1.Associations over 2,000 registered members.

3.1.2.Associations under 2,000 registered members

3.2.Long Service Awards

3.3.State Team of the Year

3.4.Waratah League Referee of the Year

3.4.1.Championship Division

3.4.2.Division 1

3.4.3.Youth League

3.5.Greatest Increase in Registrations

3.6.Most Successful Association On Court
