We Welcome You to Join Us for a Special Event!
We are excited to welcome you back to campus during Homecoming for this inaugural event: Alumni of Color. This year, as we celebrate our 125th anniversary as an institution, we also want to reflect on the history of diversity at the institution – looking to the past and planning for our future as we create an increasingly more diverse culture at George Fox.
The purpose of thisnetworking event is to connect our alumni of color to our current student body, to each other, and to George Fox; to help students adjust to life after college; and to educate both alumni and students about future jobs, networking tools, and the history of George Fox.

Robert “Randy” Winston
Born in Los Angeles the fourth child of nine, Randy moved the summer between the seventh and eighth grades to a 40-acre farm in Battle Ground, Wash., where he learned the importance of hard work. Randy applied to and was admitted to George Fox College, where he distinguished himself as a track and field athlete before graduating in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Christian education. After graduating, he worked at the college as an admissions counselor and took over the head women's track coaching job in 1978, overseeing teams that won several conference and regional championships. He and his 1980 women’s team were inducted into the George Fox Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.In 2009, he was inducted individually as a coach.
In 1981, Randy joined his father and brothers to form the Jim Winston & Sons excavating contracting business. The business worked on projects throughout the Pacific Northwest, most notably as one of the first construction firms to tackle restorative work after the eruption of Mt. St. Helens, resulting in several commendations from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. In 1989, Randy returned to the Los Angeles area and began working for the Volunteers of America Talent Search "Think College" Program, providing college admissions and financial aid information to low-income first-generation-to-college students attending Crenshaw and John C. Fremont high schools.
In June of 1996, Randy became the youth minister at Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Inglewood, Calif., and 10 years later he became the first full-time employee of South Central Scholars, primarily making contact with prospective scholars at their high schools and assisting them thorough the process of selecting the right college or university. Randy has developed an outstanding College Fair Liberal Arts Summit where some of the finest colleges and universities in the nation are represented, as well as putting on numerous workshops on SAT prep, financial aid and parent-student informational sessions.
Sandra Lopez
Before she was born, Sandra’s parents left Mexico and traveled 2,600 miles to Oregon in pursuit of a better life for their children. Despite the opportunities this move afforded her, Sandra still felt cultural pressure to focus more on starting a family than pursuing a degree. Nonetheless, she pursued her dreams and graduated as high school salutatorian. She was also awarded two scholarships, Act Six and the Hispanic Metropolitan Chamber, which would grant her a full ride to George Fox. Passionate about all components of wellness, Sandra completed internships at Regence BlueCross BlueShield, the admissions office at George Fox and Multnomah County. Despite a rigorous schedule, she involved herself in all that she could, including the dance team and the Latino Heritage Club. She graduated in 2015 with a major in business management and minors in finance and writing.
Following graduation, Sandra secured a job with Nike as a business system analyst and is currently transitioning into a new position as a category information analyst. She is a member of the product creation team, providing data and analytics to make business decisions. She’s also involved with Nike’s Latino and Friends network, where she has helped lead efforts with the network’s local partner, Virginia Garcia. Sandra is proud to work for a company that allows her to continue paying it forward. She’s also thankful for George Fox for being the platform for her career.
