About the Trinity Academy Schools
About the Schools
Trinity Academy Richmond is a small school, with 225 Pupils on roll aged 3-11 years. This is a vibrant and friendly place that has been through challenging times recently but is now producing some of the best results in North Yorkshire. It has had a change of Leadership and Governance and is an exciting environment in which to work. It is located centrally in the town of Richmond and has very strong links with the church community.
Trinity AcademyEpplebyForcett and Trinity Academy Middleton Tyas is a partnership of two small Schools with 175 pupils (26 on roll at EF –which provides for our children aged 2-5 years and 149 at MT-which provides education for children in years 1-6 ) The partnership is a warm and welcoming place with a strong Family Ethos located on the edge of Richmond, a beautiful, North Yorkshire, market town with easy access to Harrogate, Skipton, York, Leeds and main road and rail networks.
All three of the schools are part of the family of Church of England schools belonging to the Diocese of Leeds and members of the Dales Academies Trust.
Staff Profile
For the past year the Senior leaders and Governing bodies have worked hard to create effective Senior Leadership and staffing structures that move all of the schools forward. Strong structures are evident in all 3 of the schools.
At EpplebyForcett our staff team comprises of an Early Years teacher and a number of experienced Early Years Practioners.
At Middleton Tyas there are a further 2 phase leaders and anAssociateHeadteacher who form the Senior Leadership Team. A further 4 teachers and 7 Teaching assistants. An HLTA provides support for our Pupil Premium children, a HLTA provides PPA cover and MSAs provide lunchtime cover.
At Richmond the staffing structure is very similar with anAssociateHeadteacher and Phase leaders driving the learning, they are ably supported by 5 teachers and 12 TAs. Middle Leadership comprises of a PP Champion and a SENCO. MSAs provide lunchtime cover.
The Executive Headteacher oversees the whole structure and works within all three schools during a normal working week. The EHT holds the main Safeguarding role but staff at all 3 schools are also fully trained. The schools have been working in close partnership for the past year and have an experienced staff profile and the Executive Headteacher is supported by a Senior Leadership Team (SLT). Opportunities for staff to work across all 3 schools are always being sought.
The newly formed Academies and other local and national issues are also high on the list of exciting challenges.
The school system has rigour and accountability but also enables freedom to work independently.
There is a Senior School Business Manager, primarily based at Trinity Academy Richmond but who works across the 3 schools, with a School Business Manager based at the partnership schools of Trinity Academy Middleton Tyas and Trinity AcademyEpplebyForcett. They both have a lead role in the development of the schools with the Senior School Business Manager having overarching responsibility. Each school has a full time administrator.
Culture/vision and ethos
The schools have a strong family and Christian ethos. Each pupil is seen as being taken on their own individual journey to maximise their learning experience and allow them to develop appropriate social and life skills.
Our aim is that the pupils become confident as individuals, responsible as citizens and successful as learners.
We create a family type atmosphere in which everyone knows, respects and is tolerant of everyone else. Friendship, Respect and Perseverance are at the heart of all that we do and we help our young people to develop lasting friendships with their peers whilst sharing their learning journeys. We encourage all of our pupils to respect themselves and others as they strive for excellence in all that they do both academically and personally.
The belief is that the sky is the limit for our pupils in terms of what they can achieve and the school does all that it can to enable everyone to reach their full potential.
At the Trinity Academy schools ofEpplebyForcett and Middleton Tyas we believe we are a TEAM and Together Everyone Achieves More.
Whilst at Richmond the principle is Dream-Believe-Achieve and the Richmond Pride and Gold awards ensures that each child strives for excellence. All of our schools provide a safe and stimulating learning environment which nurturers and cares for every child.

Trinity Academy Richmond has improved considerably since the last Ofsted report and is now currently one of the highest performing primary schools in North Yorkshire. Since September 2017 the school has been transformed under the leadership of the current Executive Headteacher, with a strong emphasis on raising attainment and aspirations across the school and developing a strong leadership structure upon which the school can now build upon. The Nursery has been developed to provide full day provision over five days along with a thriving breakfast club and wrap around care at the end of the school day.
The Trinity School Development Plans:
- Improve all teaching toOutstanding
- Improve outcomes for all pupils especially Disadvantaged and SENDPupils
- Further develop partnership working across the 3 schools, within the MAT, and more distantcommunities
Short term priorities
We continue our outward focus and support the Swaledale Teaching school alliance by providing specialist skills to local primaries.
Long term aims and future opportunities
The schools are looking to build on the strengths gained during the partnership to date with Staff and pupils working together to provide an outstanding education for all.
Future Challenges
The school like many mainstream schools has ongoing budgetary pressures requiring a strong leadership and clear direction.
SIAMS Reports
As Church schools, we are subject to national inspection. The most recent report in March 2016 found EpplebyForcett school to be, in the distinctiveness and effectiveness, outstanding in all three domains of the inspection criteria (i.e. the distinct Christian character, the impact of collective worship and the effectiveness of leadership and management as a Church school).
Middleton Tyas was inspected in January 2015 and found to be Good across all three areas.
Richmond was subject to a limiting grade as it was in an Ofsted category but was still judged as Good across the board with the community link with the church being regarded as exemplary in June 2016.
Notwithstanding these wonderful achievements, we continue to develop our distinctiveness and effectiveness by implementing recommendations of the reports and also working very closely and regularly with our Diocesan Education Advisors.
Shared good practice across all of our schools, means that we can build on these judgments and create very special learning environments for all our learners.
The wider community
The schools all play an active role within the Swaledale Teaching School Alliance and are part of the Swaledale Cluster of schools-these two vehicles provide support and development in the area of school improvement eg Teacher training, S2S support and also give our pupils and teachers training and development opportunities. All three Trinity Academy Schools are members of the Dales Academies Trust.
The schools have a wide catchment area which includes small villages and farms as well as the town of Richmond.
In keeping with our ethos, the Schools will look to develop and strengthen links with the parish churches and the wider Christian community. We also proactively seek involvement with the community beyond the immediate locality to provide enrichment opportunities that enable children to experience the world faiths about which they learn.
Communication in all 3 schools is very good and parents are well informed through various methods including a weekly newsletter and the controlled use of social media. External agencies report that our parents are highly engaged in the education of their children. Pupils are knowledgeable of the role of the various visitors to their school and enjoy participation representing the schools in wider community events. Each of the schools has an active Junior Leadership team.
All 3 of our schools have established and important active links with schools in Kenya and have, with other local schools, participated in reciprocal staff exchange visits.
Each year the schools participate in a number of local, national and international charitable fundraising events
The schools have very strong links with various businesses, the church, the Mayor of Richmond, parish councils and also use facilities in the local community such as:
- SwimmingPools
- Woodlands
- Museums
- Theatres
Relationships between the schools and parents are excellent. Relationships with staff are very good and the staff are well thought of in the local community.
Living in North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire is England's largest county and one of the most rural. The area comprises the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Pennines and a stunning coastline around Scarborough and Whitby. The area hosted the phenomenal Tour de France in 2014, and due to its success has created the Tour de Yorkshire with global recognition.
There are ruined castles and abbeys, serene gardens, unique breweries, thrilling rides and industrial heritage. Something for everyone!
North Yorkshire has plenty to offer the outdoor enthusiast. From the hard gritstone of Almscliff and Brimham rocks to the limestone of Malham, Gordale and Kilnsey climbing venues are in abundance. The Yorkshire Dales is the premier area for caving and for mountain biking; there are the bridleways of the Dales and North York Moors as well as the renowned trail centre at Dalby Forest. The 7stanes trail centres are all easily accessible for days and weekends away as is the Lake District and the fells, crags and coast of Northumberland. There are a small number of sailing clubs on reservoirs around the county and fantastic surfsport venues and sea kayaking on the east coast.
While the county is rightly known for its wide open spaces, it also incorporates attractive market towns including Richmond, Pickering and Helmsley, traditional seaside towns, the Spa town of Harrogate and the ancient city of York - the most visited city outside of London. There are a wide range of shopping, leisure and cultural facilities as well as excellent schools, universities, road and rail links, there really is everything to offer as a place to work, live and enjoy!
Travelling further afield we have convenient connectivity, with close proximity to metropolitan cities of Leeds and Newcastle, with a little over two hours commute on the main train line to London. We border the Lake District, Lancashire, County Durham, and Yorkshire & Humber regions with all they have to offer.
