Post: Digi-Buddies Project Assistant

Report to: Project Coordinator

Location: Thames Reach Employment Academy, Peckham

Grade: Unpaid volunteer role

Commitment: Two days per week for six months

Project Overview:

Thames Reach is working in partnership with Lambeth Council to deliver an innovative new IT peer support project to help local residents get online. Digi-buddies aims to support people to access digital technology through the provision of drop-in sessions in a variety of locations throughout the borough that are freely accessible to all. The Digi-Buddies are volunteers who have been recruited to provide the support necessary that will enable people to access online resources and achieve their learning goals. The project’s further expansion into the boroughs of Southwark and Lewisham in September 2014 has provided the opportunity for this post.

Role Purpose:

To support the work currently undertaken by the Project Coordinator in a number of key areas including marketing and administration.

Competencies:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Good IT skills – comfortable using the internet, Microsoft Office applications, and social networking sites.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to organise and prioritise tasks on a daily basis.
  • An understanding of equal opportunities.
  • An awareness of health & safety issues in the workplace.
  • Some experience in administration or marketing/communications preferable but not essential.

Role Description:

Responsibilities are not limited to but are likely to include the following:

  • To contribute to the development and maintenance of the project’s website, ensuring that it is updated regularly and becomes an engaging informational resource and an interactive portal for volunteers.
  • To assist with marketing work, representing Digi-Buddies at public events in the community and organising the distribution of leaflets/promotional material to venues/services in south London.
  • Occasional visits to Digi-buddies sessions in the community as and when required.
  • Any other ad hoc administrative tasks as necessary.
