UNIVERSITY FITNESS CENTER MEMBERSHIP FEE

As the governing board for Campus Center programs including the Intramural Sports Program, the Campus Center Board has approved the implementation of a University Fitness Center Membership Fee. This usage fee for the fitness center will take into effect on March 1, 2008. Only fee-paying members will be allowed access to the fitness center. Annual membership is $120, semester membershipis $80 and monthly membership is $20. Annual membership is valid for a year from the date of purchase. Fall semester membership starts from the first instructional day and ends the day before the first instructional day of the spring semester. Spring semester membership begins the first instructional day and ends the day before the start of the summer session. The two six-week summer sessions counts as a regular one semester membership, which starts the first instructional day of session one and ends the day before the first instructional day of the fall semester. Lastly, monthly passes are issued according to the current month and not when a person purchases the membership—similar to purchasing a monthly bus pass).

The fitness center membership fee is implemented to maintain the level of services provided by the University Fitness Center and to fairly share the cost of operating the fitness center among ALL users. Currently, students are paying a fee that subsidizes operating and maintenance costs of this facility for all users. Because there are other users besides students, it is only fair that everyone who utilizes the facility share this cost. The Intramural Sports Programs offers a wide variety of services to the Manoa community and one highly utilized service is the University Fitness Center. To run the service and to refurnish and replace equipment, revenue must be generated through various sources, including applying a usage fee.
