The St Vincent employment Fayre was mainly for students.

Transformation – Tracey Carus

The newsletter should be with us in about a week.

Transformation is taking longer than expected but the team needs to get it right for people.

Residential side:

Highfield house will close on 1st June and people will move to Croft house.

Family meetings are taking place in Eastleigh.

PC reviews at Homewood at are now finished.

Day services:

Basingstoke is now finished (passed to local care team).

Bishopstoke: people are now moving to new providers.

Winchester area has been pushed back to the summer (but we do not have a date yet).

Fareham & Gosport: no date yet

What is the launchpad? it is designed for more able people. Activities are set in the community and provided by independent providers. The DOC (day opportunity coordinator) finds activities and support the service user up to 3 times. Activities are all tried and tested with the service user and someone from HCC.

Transport: people are provided with a bus pass and a companion pass.

Friends can travel together.

Soo said that sometimes the ramp in the bus is not put down. Steve Taylor said that HCC is working the bus companies but we know that there are still issues with buses.

Steve Taylor said that we are working with Telecare so that people do not get lost and if they do, they can be found quickly! Mandy will send the leaflet to Soo.

Jenny said that she feels isolated and would like to share things with other people. Tracey thought that was OK. Activities should be led on an individual basis.

Janet would like to know if providers will be added to Care Choice Website. It should all be linked up so people can check prices etc. There is also a preferred providers list.

The DOC should be able to sign post people (Sophie Pleydell has gone to Bishopstoke day service for the time being)

Self directed support (SDS) / Direct Payment

It seems that there is confusion between SDS and Direct Payment (DP).

SDS Leaflet (easy read)

http://intranet.hants.gov.uk/easy-read-sds.pdf

Comments:

No explanation of Direct Payment (DP) at reviews (and who will support the service user to do a direct payment)

Direct payment needs to be explained with the care manager and the advantages. The service user needs to have a good plan!

Soo said that direct payment is OK but it gives more work for parents/carers (Steve said that commissioning is done by HCC very often).

Steve said that the new contract for direct payment (HCC) is via SKILL. it creates more options, new opportunities and is more service user led.

Reviews should be done annually.

Steve also said that he has worked very hard with Lucy Butler to add another £5.5 million in the LD budget. There are hard times but the council recognised that the learning disability population is growing.

Update from Steve Taylor

Steve is now working on operations and commissioning. He is the director of integrated services.

Steve would like to set up a governance group for the Partnership Board. He would like the Partnership Board group to co run it with Cllr Hindson and the service users. The first part of the Partnership Board would be with all the agencies (Steve, Michelle Stickland from NHS, Alison Ridley from safeguarding, transformation team, job centre+ etc) and then the second half of the meeting would overview the strategy and how things should look like. Andrea is going to lead on this project and Flo will do the admin.

Steve also said that in a few weeks he is organising a meeting for the LIG chairs and key people.

Steve would also like to pay people with a learning disability who are key players.

Safeguarding: Steve said that HCC is ahead of the game nationally as they have a team of safeguarding coordinators (Alison Ridley – team leader).

The team is working with providers who are not doing so well on safeguarding issues. They have a specialist training team too.

Changes in teams can have a big impact on service users and it is important that service users are in control. The person should be at the centre of the process and decision making is key.

Purple LIG team led by:

Will Dunkinson manages Fareham & Gosport

Emma Harris-Watkins and James Pearce manage Winchester (and North)

Partnership Board matters - Kathy

Kathy and Andrew attended the Partnership Board. We voted and Tanya Kiff is the new Co-chair (Yellow LIG).

We talked about transformation (Alison Froude gave a big presentation) and Health (Michelle Stickland). There were less health checks done than in the previous year. Michelle is going to try and find out why.

Autism consultation: Fareham 10 am to 12 noon today and Winchester drop in on 8 May from 6 pm to 8 pm. You can also respond on line.

We might do one in the Purple LIG if the Green LIG one is successful.
