Job title: Sessionaland Casual Youth Workers

Reporting to: Station Youth Worker and RAF Community Development Officer.

Hours of work: 6 hours per week(sessional), as and when required (Casual)

Location: RAF Valley, Angelsy, LL65 3NY

Job Purpose:

To work closely with the Station Youth Workerand RAF Community Development Officer to support the development of youth provision.

To work with young people by making contact and establishing relationships with young people from the RAF community.

To encourage and enable young people to participate in a range of opportunities.

To assist in the delivery of an innovative, high quality range of personally challenging activities and support to young people from the RAF community, taking into account their individual needs.

To assist in the dissemination of good practice within Airplay, the RAF Benevolent Fund Youth Support Programme.

Job Activities:

  1. Project Delivery:
  • To work with the RAF Community Development Officer and Station Youth Worker to assist in the development of term time and holiday provision for young people in the RAF community.
  • Participate in the delivery of detached and outreach youth work sessions when required.
  • To assist in the development and delivery a programme of imaginative activities, encourage the active participation of young people from the RAF community in developing their skills and understanding of others and the world around them.
  • Contribute to the development of opportunities for youth participation by involving young people in the decision-making processes whereby individuals and groups take on responsibilities for themselves and others in their project and the wider community.
  • Facilitate young people’s learning and their personal and social development.
  • Promote opportunities for accreditation for children and young people by providing access to recognised award programmes to support, accredit and celebrate their learning and achievement.
  • Respond to individual and group needs, which include issues affecting young people, promoting self awareness and self-esteem.
  • Assist in the implementation and development of 4Children’s Quality Improvement Framework.
  • Contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of youth work sessions in accordance with the Airplay Youth Support Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.
  1. General
  • To develop a productive working relationship with the RAF Community Development Officer, youth workers, volunteers, parents, children and young people and any other relevant RAF personnel.
  • Comply with individual responsibilities for staff and young people, in accordance with work role, for health and safety in the workplace.
  • Follow child protection guidelines and report any concerns using the correct procedure.

Person specification:

Essential / Desirable
Education and Qualifications / No qualifications are essential / Level 1 Safeguarding Children and Young People.
NVQ Level 2 Qualification in Youth Work
Experience / At least one year experience of delivering a programme of activities with young people both individually and in groups.
Planning, preparing and facilitating activities with young people.
Monitoring and evaluating the quality of youth work.
Proven experience of working within an equal opportunities framework.
Knowledge and Understanding / Initiating, building and maintaining purposeful relationships with young people.
Enabling young people to work in groups.
Child protection issues, policies and procedures.
Health and Safety legislation. / Knowledge of UK Armed Forces and the effects of Service life on children and young people.
Detached and outreach youth work
Skills / Support young people in expressing and realising their goals.
Develop a culture that promotes inclusion and values diversity.
A pro-active approach to solving problems with the ability to make an ongoing evaluation of outcomes, and to react accordingly.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Personal Attributes / Understand the values and principles underpinning youth work.
Ability to work on his/her own initiative as well as part of a team responsible for delivering a high quality youth service.
Develop productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders to support youth work.
Work as an effective and reflective youth work practitioner.

0 (Casual) or 6 Hours per week.

  1. Duration of Contract

Until end June 2017

  1. Holidays

30 days per year plus Bank Holidays (Pro Rata). Some annual leave may need to be taken at the Christmas period, when the London Headquarters office closes.

  1. Salary

£10.31 to £10.52 per hourdepending on experience.

  1. Method of Pay

Salaries are paid by direct debit into the staff member’s nominated bank account on the 15th day of each month.
