Kentucky is commonly known as the birthplace of Bourbon Whiskey, but the area has wrestled with prohibition more than once in its sordid history of alcohol production. Join Lamers Tour & Travel as we explore the Louisville, Kentucky area and learn about the history of prohibition and the thriving distilling industry taking place today. We travel today with a stop for dinner at the Troll Under the Bridge before checking into the Galt House for the next three nights.
DAY TWOB, L
Long before Las Vegas acquired the nickname, Louisville enjoyed the dubious reputation as America’s Sin City because of the decadence associated with its distilleries, tobacco houses and horse races. Today, ghostly legends from its heyday live on. We’ll start our day with a guided tour of the Old Louisville of the Roaring 20s and the Fabulous 30s when flappers, moon shiners and gangsters kept the neighborhood hopping with scandal and intrigue. We’ll see where tobacco barons and whiskey kings made their homes. From there, we’ll explore the Frazier Arms Museum of Prohibition and stop for lunch and a tour at Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. Located on downtown Louisville's historic "Whiskey Row," the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience celebrates the legacy of Evan Williams, Kentucky's first commercial distiller. Afterwards, we’ll tour the Brown-Forman Cooperage, one of the world’s largest producers of whiskey barrels.
DAY THREEB, D
Our first stop of the day is the Heaven Hill Bourbon Heritage Center. We’ll learn about the history of both bourbon and Heaven Hill. After touring Rickhouse Y, we head back to the Parker Beam Tasting Barrel to enjoy an educational tasting of three of their American Whiskeys.Afterwards, we’ll tour the Oscar Getz Museum of Whiskey History, whichdisplays a 50 year collection of rare artifacts and documents concerning the American whiskey industry dating from pre-Colonial days to post-Prohibition years.Then we’ll tour Jim Beam’s American Stillhouse and learn how this iconic bourbon is made. We’ll end our day with dinner at the Bristol Bar & Grille.
DAY FOURB, L
This morning, we pack up and return home, possibly with some souvenirs in a bottle. On our journey back to Wisconsin, we’ll stop for one last lunch at A Summer Place in Sharpsville, Indiana.
