MINISTRY DESCRIPTIONS
EVANGLISM – Seeking the Lost
This overall category supports the following 12 ministries. All of these ministries have “seeking the lost” as their core purpose and should be performed with that goal in mind.
BAPTISM ASSISTANCE–Irma Hefner (Ministry Leader)
- As baptism is one of the most important moments in a person’s life, a goal of this ministry is that all baptisms are accomplished without problems and with necessary supplies.
- Performs a periodic check to make sure the baptism areas are well supplied with clothing, towels, etc., and takes care of laundering items as they are used.
- Assist with baptisms as they occur during worship times and make arrangements for others to assist if you are planning to be absent from a worship service.
VISITOR FOLLOW-UP– Peter & Amanda Breninger (Ministry Leaders)
- The office generates a weekly report of all visitor cards received. A letter is sent automatically from the office after the first visit. If the person indicates an interest in Mayfair as a church home, they are called by a minister.
- This ministry takes all of these efforts a step further by calling visitors, or sending a handwritten note.
- Recruiting others to help with this effort and brainstorming ways to invite visitors to additional service, events, and/or programs of the congregation is a goal.
- Offering and taking visitors to lunch/dinner following services is a goal of the ministry.
- An awareness of the other ministries and leaders in those ministries is required in order to direct a visitor correctly when needs are identified (i.e., counseling, benevolence, evangelism,etc.).
TUTORING– Katie Isenberg (Ministry Leader)
- The tutoring program takes place Wednesday’s from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. during the school year.
- It involves recruiting bus drivers to pick-up children at school and returns those staying for Bible study home
- It involves recruiting tutors, meal providers, and crowd controllers.
- It involves working with Monroe school and student’s parents.
- Materials and plans have to be made for each tutoring time.
- It involves a great deal of communication and scheduling with the parties involved and those skills are essential to a successful program.
MISSIONS– Gina Clay (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry works with all our foreign mission efforts. A goal of this ministry is to consistently encourage our foreign missionaries.
- Working to communicate personally and coordinate other communications with these mission fields is essential.
- Keep the elders and congregation informed throughout the year of things that are happening in these efforts.
- Help plan trips and recruit others to assist with trip planning and coordinate with the elders on budgetary needs.
- Assist with Mission Sunday by working with staff and recommending ways to make that effort more effective and informative for the congregation.
GREETERS/VISITOR/INFORMATION– Mike Pruitt (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry provides volunteers and trains them to greet visitors at each of the main entrances to the church.
- Insure that the volunteers are able to give information about classes and be willing to take people to their class if needed.
- Work with the office to make sure brochures and other materials are current in the SE lobby.
- Evaluate areas and signs to insure they are informative and friendly to visitors and guests.
HOME BIBLE STUDIES/SMALL GROUPS– Jim Wood (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry works to set up home Bible study groups as interest is expressed.
- Recommends a format as well as recommends curriculum and training leaders to be in charge of the group.
- Be aware of other small groups functioning in the church that could be used as evangelistic tools to invite visitors and prospective members to..such as the 1st Sunday night fellowship group, Tuesday Ladies class, etc.
CHILDREN– Katie Isenberg (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry works to help the children’s minister to recruit and support the children’s program.
- Help recruit teachers and aides for the children’s classes as well as volunteers to sit with bus children in worship.
- Help with recruiting for children’s activities such as the egg hunt, summer events, camp, carnival, VBS, etc.
- Help in whatever ways the children’s minister could use to better teach and educate the children at Mayfair.
YOUTH – Caleb Foster (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry works to help the full-time youth minister to recruit and support the youth program.
- Recruit teachers for the youth classes as well as recruit volunteers to chaperone at youth events and be positive role models for the youth group.
- Be involved in all of the activities that the youth are currently doing such as camp, service days, devotionals, rafting trips, senior’s luncheon, and youth led worships.
- Support the youth minister in whatever ways he could use to better teach and educate the youth at Mayfair.
COLLEGE – Michael Mitchell (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry ministers to college age people at Mayfair.
- Identify strategies to attract the college age to our church as well as events that would minister to them at this particular time in their lives.
- Coordinate with staff, adult Bible classes, and other volunteers to plan classes, retreats, meals, and other activities for this age group.
- Coordinate with other ministries to involve this group with the other areas to serve in the life of this church.
TRANSPORTATION– David Clanton (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry organizes and arranges for drivers of the people mover to pick up children on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
- Schedules current available drivers to make sure that each need is covered.
- Assigned driver will call the children the night before to see if they are riding the next day.
- Provide volunteers to help watch the children on the bus.
- Recruit and explain how to become a licensed driver for the church.
- Recruit volunteers to provide rides to the elderly or other members of our congregation who may need a ride to worship or other church activity.
WEB PAGE – Lynne Wood (Ministry Leader)
- This ministry maintains and updates our web page.
- Insure that events and information are posted on the web page as quickly as possible.
- Maintain contact with office to insure web page is current.
- Work with other ministry leaders to identify opportunities for additional links, content or other documents that enhance the dissemination and availability of information to Mayfair members or other individuals viewing our website.
- Make recommendations to the elders on new or updated content to include on the web page and the financial resources needed to maintain up-to-date web based technology.
PUBLIC RELATIONS – Andrea Mangus (Ministry Leader)
- Work with the other ministry leaders to determine the needs of the various ministries related to communicating or advertising needs, events, and other functions of the ministries.
- Make recommendations for the most effective and financially reasonable methods for reaching intended audiences.
- Assist in the placement of ads, stories, or articles in the various forms of advertising media available.
- Advise and assist the elders in the development of PR strategies that contribute to accomplishing the mission of the church.
RELATIONSHIPS – Bringing Back the Scattered
The overall category oversees and supports the following 13 ministries. All of these ministries have “bring back the scattered” as their core purpose and should be performed with that goal in mind.
ENCOURAGEMENT – Tam Barnes & Lisa Dixon (Ministry Leaders)
The purpose of this ministry is to encourage members of the congregation that are struggling with illness, loss, loneliness or other difficult situations. (This is a new formalized ministry.)
- Identifying individuals in need of encouragement.
- Sending cards, making phone calls and/or personal visits to identified individuals.
- Brainstorming and implementing other ideas to accomplish the above.
NEW MEMBER INCORPORATION– Dan Skaggs (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to help plug-in new members into the life of this church.
- Working with the office staff to provide a packet to new members with relevant and current information.
- Sending cards, making phone calls and or personal visits, and/or taking the new members out to lunch, etc. in an effort to become acquainted with the new members and make them feel welcome.
- Encouraging the new members to join a Bible class and become involved in the ministry system.
- Brainstorming and implementing other ideas, including possibly hosting periodic new member dinners as a method to get the staff, elders, and other members acquainted with new members.
MEMBERS MIA (MISSING IN ACTION) – Pam Mangus (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to identify members that are not attending regularly and determine their need and appropriate additional follow-up. (This is a new formalized ministry.)
- Determining a process to identify members whose attendance has declined (perhaps through Bible Class roll sheets, etc.).
- Personally contacting the identified members and determining their status, needs, etc.
- Communicating any special needs of the individuals to the appropriate parties for additional follow-up (e.g., the Elders, Encouragement Ministry, Seniors Ministry, etc.).
- Brainstorming and implementing processes to accomplish the above.
FELLOWSHIP - Aimee VanWagoner (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to promote and oversee all-church fellowships.
- Coordinating all aspects of all-church fellowships including planning, organizing, advertising, setting up, decorating, cooking (or purchasing/catering), serving and cleaning up.
- Hosting the following annual all-church fellowship: Mayfair Live (or Bella Notte), Star Spangled Fried Chicken Dinner and Thanksgiving Potluck Luncheon.
- Brainstorming and planning additional events (including a possible Christmas event).
MEN’S MINISTRY– Steve Sims & Nathan Skaggs (Ministry Leaders)
The purpose of this ministry is to promote fellowship and the building of relationships between the men of the congregation. (This is new formalized ministry.)
- Developing programs and events specifically for men. (Examples include: fishing trips, Bible studies, Prayer breakfasts, Men’s retreat).
- Encouraging mentoring through inter-generational activities.
WOMEN’S MINISTRY – Debbie Yeagley & Beth Anderson (Ministry Leaders)
The purpose of this ministry is to promote fellowship and building of relationships between the women of the congregation. (This is a new formalized ministry.)
- Developing programs and events specifically for women. (Examples include: craft nights, Bunko, Bible studies, Girls Nights out, Bloom Brunch, Ladies’ Retreat.)
- Encouraging mentoring through inter-generational activities.
TUESDAY LADIES CLASS– Norma Harris (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to oversee the Tuesday Bible Class which meets September through May at the church building.
- Planning and organizing the speakers, luncheons, devotionals, recreational trips, and other service projects that this ladies class provides.
- Encouraging women of all ages to participate in the class and its activities.
WEDDING/BABY SHOWERS – Joanne Steward (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to ensure that all members of this church have successful first wedding and first baby showers.
- Coordinating with the staff and the recipient of the shower to set a time and location on the church calendar and timely communicating this information to the congregation.
- Assigning women who are interested in this ministry to shower teams.
- Notifying the team members when it is their time to host a shower.
- Being available to assist the shower teams as required, including making the members aware of the tablecloths, serving pieces, paper goods, etc. that are available and where they are located.
- Purchasing and stocking the paper goods, etc. for use by the shower teams.
- Brainstorming and implementing new ideas to make our current shower ministry even more successful.
SPORTS & RECREATION MINISTRY– Matt & Shannon Meredith (Ministry Leaders)
The purpose of this ministry is to promote fellowship among members and their guests through sports and recreation programs. (This is a new formalized ministry.)
- Coordinating all aspects of the events including working with the office to set a time and location on the church calendar, publicizing the event, obtaining all necessary equipment, overseeing the actual event and if applicable, cleaning up the church building/grounds.
- Organizing old and new events such as weekly pickup basketball, participation in a softball league, hosting a golf tournament, sponsoring a ski trip.
- Brainstorming to develop new events.
DONUT MINISTRY – Donna Fossey (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to welcome our members and guests on Sunday mornings in a manner that promotes fellowship and encourages each individual to start his/her Sunday morning experience in a positive manner.
- Purchasing and setting up all materials for the donut fellowship every Sunday morning in the SE lobby.
- Recruiting volunteers to work the table and clean up each Sunday (including reminder calls and/or emails to the volunteers).
- Providing the volunteers with instructions and support.
KITCHEN – Lisa Pruitt (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is tokeep our church kitchen organized, maintained and stocked for any need that arises.
- Keeping the kitchen equipped.
- Organizing the refrigerator, freezer, and pantry and regularly disposing of old food.
- Keeping clutter from accumulating on the work surfaces (including setting out dishes, etc. that need to be picked up by members).
- Providing periodic deep cleaning of work areas and appliances.
- Training and use of all the appliances in the kitchen.
- Being available to help with any other ministry using our kitchen facilities.
- Washing towels and rags as needed.
- Coordinating with Brennon and/or David regarding appliance maintenance and repair needs.
- Overseeing the storage, cleaning and check out procedures of the dishes and tablecloths.
PHOTOGRAPHY – Courtney Waugh (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to photograph all the activities of our church for historical purposes and promotional tools.
- Coordinating volunteers to take pictures at all church activities and fellowships.
- Coordinating volunteers to be present and ready to take pictures as needed at services, etc. (For instance, we currently try to take pictures of new members, baby dedications, and baptisms.)
- Providing the pictures to the appropriate parties (office staff, Public Relations ministry, web page host).
- Coordinating the accumulation, organizing, and storage of the media.
CHILD CARE (SPECIAL EVENTS) – Molly Radford (Ministry Leader)
The purpose of this ministry is to ensure that quality childcare is provided for special events such as seminars, fellowship events, etc
- Coordinating with the office regarding the applicable events.
- Recruiting and coordinating volunteers to watch the children of the people that attend these events and this includes making arrangements for feeding the children, if appropriate.
OUTREACH – Bind Up The Broken
This overall category oversees and supports the following 8 ministries. All of these ministries have “bind up the broken” as their core purpose and should be performed with that goal in mind.
BENEVOLENCE – Rocky Miller (Ministry Leader)
- Support and oversee ongoing benevolence at Westview Boy’s Home, Tipton Children’s Homes, Christian Services of Oklahoma, Christian Service Center, Britvil Food Pantry, and Infant Crisis Center.
- Operation of Mayfair Food Pantry including coordinating and training volunteers.
- Coordinate other benevolence projects that may be performed during the year including special benevolence donations at holiday time.
- Organizing shopping, wrapping, and delivery of donations for holidays.
- Communicate with organizations or groups and report information to elders and the churchoffice.
COMMUNITY SERVICE – Tom Clay (Ministry Leader)
- Provide and plan for community service projects (ex. Sunday service project nights, City Rescue Mission meals, Monroe Elementary service relationship).
- Organize, promote and plan service opportunities the congregation could perform.
- Coordinate with the church office for scheduling opportunities and inform the congregation for needs.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS – Lana Clark (Ministry Leader)
- Coordinate with Community Service and Benevolence to develop community programs involving the church in areas not already being served.
HOSPITAL VISITATION – Phil Napoliello (Ministry Leader)
- Provide visits to Mayfair members who are hospitalized.
- Coordinate volunteers to insure all members receive visitation.
- Advise office of information, requests, or needs obtained during visitation.
GRIEF ENCOURAGEMENT – Norma Harris & Sadie Davis (Ministry Leaders)
- Provide meals for families of Mayfair members that have experienced a loss.
- Coordinate with the church office and family to prepare a luncheon and serve on the day of the funeral.
- Coordinate set-up, recruiting volunteers to cook, serve, and clean-up.
COUNSELING – Debbie Brown (Ministry Leader)
- Provide special counseling intervention as needed and appropriate.
- Make evaluations and recommendations for professional services if needed.
- Act as resource for establishing and training support groups coordinating with ministerial staff.
- Evaluate and recommend counseling materials for classes.
SHUT-INS AND NURSING HOME VISITATION – Bill & Dianna Huddleston (Ministry Leaders)
- Provide communion, encouragement notes, birthday and Christmas acknowledgements.
- Communicate with members or their families for birthdays and information that will be useful for encouragement.
- Purchase and accept donations of items for baskets and gifts.
- Arrange delivery of baskets and gifts.
- Recruit volunteers to bring communion when requested.
- Communicate with the church office for current mailing addresses.
- Communicate to the church office any condition information, requests, or needs of individualsor family.
SENIOR SUPPORT – Steve Fossey (Ministry Leader)
