ROBERTO BOLLE AND FRIENDS
Arena di Verona
Wednesday 22nd July - 10:00 pm
On Wednesday 22nd July at 10:00 pm, with Roberto Bolle and Friends, the first of the three special evenings of the 93rd edition of the Arena di Verona 2015 Opera Festival will be staged.
The eagerly awaited gala dedicated to dance, organized in collaboration with Artedanza s.r.l., this year returns by popular demand and once again stages international ballet under Verona’s star-studded sky in the evocative setting of the Arena amphitheatre.
The star of the evening is one of the world’s best-known and most acclaimed dancers: Roberto Bolle. The principal dancer of Milan’s Teatro alla Scala and the American Ballet Theatre is back in the Arena spotlight along with his “Friends”, the world’s ballet stars from some of the most important companies in Europe and the United States, for a unique and unforgettable show.
Performing with Bolle in Verona there will therefore be Joan Boada and Maria Kochetkova from the San Francisco Ballet; Jiri Bubenícek from Dresden’s Semperoper Ballet and his brother Otto Bubenícek with Alexandre Riabko from the Hamburg Ballet; Melissa Hamilton, Matthew Golding and Eric Underwood from London’s Royal Ballet; Nicoletta Manni from Milan’s Teatro alla Scala and Anna Tsygankova from Amsterdam’s Dutch National Ballet.
The dancers’ performances will be accompanied by the Arena di Verona Orchestra, conducted by Fabio Mastrangelo.
Personally chosen by Roberto Bolle, the program ranges from the 19th century to contemporary repertoire, by illustrious choreographers who are part of ballet history to promising young talents on the international ballet scene, for a magnificent evening. It will be an incredible journey, from classics like Don Quixote and Excelsior, the great historical Italian ballet chosen this year to celebrate Milan’s Expo 2015, through to real choreographic gems of the 1900s, created by ballet legends such as Ashton, MacMillan and Neumeier, and contemporary choreography stars such as Dawson, Wheeldon and McGregor. Unique combinations, enabling spectators to enjoy the best of the international ballet scene from the 1900s to the present day all in a single evening, creating a wonderful, must-see spectacle for fans, but also perfect and extremely enjoyable evening for newcomers to the world of ballet.
