LIGHTHOUSE PHOTO CONTEST 2009

The Toledo Harbor Light Preservation Society is holding a photography contest for the

July 11 -12 Lighthouse Waterfront Festival. Photographs of lighthouses from any place

and any season are welcome. All amateur photographers (one who’s income from photography is not more than one half of their annual earnings) are invited to participate.

Categories include: (1) Traditional (Any lighthouse) (2) The Toledo Harbor Lighthouse

(3) A Lighthouse at sunset. Photos may be digital or film, black and white or colored. Only minimal photo editing, that does not change the concept of the photo,

is allowed. (See official rules for specifics.)

Photos will be displayed in the lobby of Maumee Bay State Park two weeks before the

festival, between June 27 and July 12. Judging will be done by local artists and/or photography professionals before the festival.

To enter, submit an 8 x 10 matted photo on Saturday, June 27th . between 11:00 A.M. and

3:00 P.M. at the Maumee Bay State Park Main Entrance. A table will be set up across from the Reservation Desk. For Official Rules and Entry Forms, contact Carol Lake at 419-797-2106 or Janet Gladieux 419-693-1877. You may enter as many photographs as you like. Entry forms

may be duplicated. There is a $5.00 entry fee per photo payable at the time photo is submitted. To the Toledo Lighthouse Society.

Ribbons and certificates will be awarded to the winners. Prizes will be awarded to First Place Winners, Best of Show and the People’s Choice Winner. Information on the July 11 – 12 festival is available at toledolighthouse.org

Pick up of photos and awards will be on Sunday, July 12th from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. across from the Reservation Desk at the same place they were dropped off. If you miss this pick-up date, your photos may be picked up at the Toledo Harbor Light Monthly Meeting on the last Thursday of the month at 7:00 P.M., or other arrangements may be made. OFFICIAL LIGHTHOUSE PHOTO CONTEST 2009 RULES:

  1. The Toledo Harbor Light Festival Photography Contest welcomes entries from any amateur photographer (one not earning over half their income from photography).
  2. The contest consists of 3 separate divisions: Photos may be of any lighthouse worldwide. See letter for details.
  3. Photos may be color or in black and white, digital or from film. Photo editing may be minimal without changing the concept or subject of the photo. An example of what may be acceptable would be color adjustment, clarity and cropping. Judging will be by qualified professionals selected by the contest’s coordinators. Ribbons and certificates will be awarded to all winners. Additional awards will be presented for Best of Show, 3 First Place Winners and a special People’s Choice Award.
  4. Photos are to be approximately 8” x 10” and must be neatly matted. Matted works require no hanging device. Photos will be displayed in easel form.
  5. Entry is to have official entry form, or photocopy of such, SECURELY TAPED to back of entry. You must KEEP your claim check for PHOTO PICK-UP. No entries may be removed from show early, please. You may enter as many photos as you desire! There is a $5 entry fee, per photo, payable at the time of submission.
  6. Photos will be displayed in the lobby of Maumee Bay State Park two weeks before the festival; across from the reservation desk at the Maumee Bay State Park main entrance. Photos may also be displayed in the Toledo Harbor Lighthouse Society booth at the festival. Photos are not covered by insurance from loss by theft, fire, or vandalism. You should retain a copy of your negative or save your digital image in the event of loss. Special care is given in handling. However, the Toledo Harbor Light Preservation Society can assume no liability for damage from handling. The Association reserves the right to approve all subject matter before exhibiting. Photos may not have been entered in previous years. PHOTO PICK-UP will be Sunday, the last day of the festival from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Any photos left after this are done so at own risk and may be picked up by arrangements made with Toledo Harbor Light Association Committee Chairman. You may have anyone pick up your photo(s) with your completed, matching claim check(s).
  7. Photos may be dropped off at the Maumee Bay State Park on the Saturday two weeks before the festival between 11:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M. at a designated table across from the reservation desk in the main lobby of the hotel.   8. Photos may be submitted by mail. They should be sent directly to contest coordinators. Photos will also be returned by mail if return postage is included. Every effort will be made to return them safely and in their original condition. For more details, contact coordinators.
