Project Purpose

My mother has been running a Mediterranean food catering business for the past 8 years and she has been providing her services through farmers markets and catering for events.

Contacting customers through the phone, Facebook page and email are the current ways her business operates. I want to expand her marketing and give her customers a better way to contact her by creating a catering website for her company.

Facebook page does have a list of her services and her products with pictures as well as prices.

However, a webpage would help organize everything and give customers easier access, especially for those without a Facebook page. There will be a place on the internet where her company can call home and where she can update regularly. This website will be the number one marketing and sales feature of her company. In order to make this happen I must make a webpage with as many features needed by the company that will make everything proficient for both my mother and her customers.

Project Product

My product will be a brand new webpage for my mother’s catering company that will have

  • All of her products listed with pictures and prices
  • A section for recipes
  • Pictures of the parties and events she has catered to
  • Pictures of her stand at farmers market
  • History of her company
  • History of Turkey and Turkish Food
  • Customer Reviews
  • Her company’s logo on the top of the page
  • A list of the farmers markets she attends
  • Contact information such as email, phone number and Facebook page

Project Audience

The audience that my project will be targeting are customers of my mom’s food, those looking for catering and future customers that learned about us from our current customers.

Basically anyone or group of people in need of catering services for parties, events, and other specials days. Also for those looking to order meal plans through online services that need to see a menu. The recipes will be for those that want to try their hand at cooking traditional Turkish cuisine for themselves and their family and friends. Those that do not have Facebook page are also the audience for this project.

Technicalities

  • I will be needing to focus on the 3 kinds of designs when making the website; Ecstatic, System Center, and User center.
  • These 3 kinds of designs will give me 3 different perspectives to my project and this in result will overall make my project better.
  • The strategy and the structure plane will be very important in the process of making this website
  • Important details such as user needs, project objectives, functional specifications and content requirements will be addressed in this proposal and during the process of making this website.
  • I will be using all of my learning of HTML 5 and CSS to design a very elaborate yet easy to use website for my project audience
  • I will also be using a host website called siteground.com possibly their “StartUp” or “GrowBig” options

Similar Sites

Some sites that are similar to my project product:

This site utilizes the ability to use images to draw the attention of the audience and makes the webpage look good. They have an original photo that belongs to the company and it makes the webpage unique.

However, they do not have many customer reviews or testimonials as I would like for my project product to have.

This site uses the photos of their food in a very useful way by organizing it based on whether a customer would like to order breakfast or lunch etc. I really admire their organization skills and how it is so easy to order from their website. It is an easy to use webpage that gives enough information about their foods and services, but not so much that the customer gets overwhelmed.

One thing that I did not like about this webpage is the color scheme, it is just too much and it takes away from the products. There are too many colors, especially the background of the webpage. I think three colors is too much and I maximum of just two should be more than enough.

This catering webpage gave me a great idea about how I can make the photos in my project change by fading them in and out. As soon as I opened their webpage, they had pictures of their food that were automatically changing without me doing anything. The fading aspect made it seem casual and calm.

However, their contact information at the bottom of the page was very small and only had their phone number. I would want an email address, phone number and the Facebook page all together at the end of the page for the customer.
