Poster Project
Your group will be creating an informational poster about a college or university.
Step One: Select the name of a college or university as provided by your teacher.
Step Two: Using the computer, log on to the website http://californiacolleges.edu
Ø Click on “Explore Colleges”
Ø Click on “Campus Facts”
Ø Click on the first letter of the name of your group’s college (for example, click on “U” for UC Santa Barbara)
Ø Click on the name of your group’s college or university
Step Three: Look up the following information about your college:
ü Year established
ü Type of school
ü Programs
ü Religious Affiliation
ü Campus enrollment
ü Coeducational information
ü Location description
ü Application Fee
Step Four: Click on “student life.” Find the following information:
ü Total undergraduates
ü Undergraduate demographics (racial breakdown)
ü City or town school is located in
Step Five: Go back to the “Campus Facts” menu and click on “Costs & Financial Aid.” Find the following information:
ü Tuition amount
ü Percentage of first-year students who apply for financial aid
ü Percentage of first-year students determined to have financial need
Step Six: Go back to the “Campus Facts” menu and click on “Academics.” Find the following information:
ü Majors with the highest enrollment
Step Seven: Continue to explore the California Colleges website or the college/university’s website to find two interesting facts about the school (ex: school mascot, colors, clubs, traditions, etc.)
Step Eight: Create a poster that neatly and clearly includes the following information:
ü College/University Name (write this in the college’s colors!)
ü Total Enrollment
ü City or town of location
ü Tuition amount
ü Majors with the highest enrollment
ü One interesting or unusual fact about the school

Materials needed: Butcher Paper, markers, laptops/computers (one per group)
While students are working, teacher will create a similar poster for an out-of-state school (to be assigned).

Now that you have investigated one college extensively, it’s time to find out what other colleges may have to offer you!
The mission (part 1): You and a partner will go around campus for the next 20 minutes looking for information about four other colleges. Because there are so many college posters around campus, choose four colleges that you think you could really see yourself going to or might be interested in for the future.
