Resin Floor and Wall Coating / Sealer

1.10

Substrate Preparation

1.11

Where so designated on the drawings, internal concrete floor and wall surfaces shall be coated with a high performance coloured epoxy resin floor and wall coating providing a dust-proof, easily cleaned surface.

1.12

General

All surfaces shall be prepared, and the coating material applied strictly in accordance with the current manufacturer technical data sheet.

All work shall be carried out by an experienced contractor, who is well trained in the application of the specific, documented, coating system.

All materials used in conjunction with the coating system, shall be approved by the coating manufacturer.

1.13

Surface Preparation

All surfaces to which the new coating material is to be applied, shall be clean, sound, and free from loose material and contamination such as plaster, oil, paint and grease. Concrete substrate must not have a relative humidity of greater than 80% at the time of coating application.

Excess laitance should be removed by light scabbling or captive shot blasting followed by vacuuming to remove all dust debris.

All large substrate cracks, holes, surface imperfections which may cause excessive wearing on high spots and change the perceived colour of the coating are to be removed, filled, and dry, prior to coating application.

For applications where water vapour seepage or moisture are of concern, pre-treatment and priming with a manufacturer approved moisture barrier must be used.

Epoxy Resin Coating Material

1.21

The floor / wall coating is to be a four component (base, hardener, and 2 colour packs) epoxy resin high build coating system that cures to form a resilient, chemical resistant, coloured satin finish seal to concrete and other surfaces. The material is to be applied in two coats to achieve an approximate total dry film thickness of 285-400 microns.

The coating material shall exhibit the following approximate properties:

Dry film thickness: / 285-400 microns approx.
Solids content: / 90%
Initial hardness: / 24 hours @ 23oC
Full cure: / 5 days @ 23oC
