Welcome back to school, we have now completed the first week of the summer 1 term.
This week in year 2 we have been concentrating on poems, specifically acrostic poems. Some children created their own poems at home and brought them into school. Their innitiative, emthusiasm and the literacy techniques that are included in them have led us to publish them below.
Ayo:
Sunny and bright along the lovely seaside.
Eating yummy ice-cream with all my friends.
Acting like funny clowns with no frowns.
Splashing waves smacking the rocks.
Ice-cream melting all over the place.
Dancing like little fish with my friends.
Ending the day with my friends and now its time to go.
Zara:
Sandy day on the beach.
Eagles flying up up high.
Amazing day at the beach.
Starfish scattered all over the land.
I love the beach and the sand.
Donuts that are delicious to make.
Exciting day on the beach.
During the week, a time is set aside by each reception class to change their reading books, however these cannot be changed if they are not in the child’s book bag. Please ensure that your child’s reading book is in their book bag on their library dates below:
Maple class: Tuesday and Friday.
Cherry class: Monday and Thursday.
Willow class: Tuesday and Thursday.

There have been various incidents reported to the front office recently regarding vehicles blocking the road and some near miss collisions.
Safety of our children is a priority and children will not always be acting in a safe manner, which means we should be extremely vigilant outside of the school. Sydney Russell Primary are in consultation to have the area outside of the school marked with yellow zig zagged lines. Meanwhile please do not park, drop off or pick up children using a vehicle outside of the school along Fanshawe Crescent as well as park across any dropped kerbs obstructing drives. This will ensure that our children are safe and will prevent the road from being blocked as well as avoid any confrontations with other parents or carers.
At Sydney Russell we want our children to be healthy and active. Years 1, 2 and 3 will be allowed to bring a piece of fruit or a vegetable to have at morning break.
This arrangement will be indefinite as long as no issues arise. Thanks you to all who have supported this scheme throughout.
The senior leadership team will be meeting to discuss the formulation of the PTA and election arrangements. Thank you to all who have expressed an interest as it is a crucial part of the development of the school that we have such enthusiastic parents and carers. Further news will follow next week.
