2018 – 2019

Welcome Parents,

We are very excited to be kicking off another year of Central School Dance. This packet was put together to have all the information you may need in one spot. Hopefully you will find it useful to answer any questions you may have.

Staff

We are happy to announce that all of the dance instructors will be returning next year. Our professionally trained and dedicated teaching staff is focused on teaching proper technique, body placement & poise; while encouraging self-confidence and camaraderiein a fun non-competitive environment. Waitlist Policy:

If you are placed on the waitlist for a class, your waitlist number will be given to you.

Due to the limit of 4 recital tickets per family, the dance program can only accept 130 families. If we reach this, waitlist priorities will be given to Current Central School Dance families prior to new families.

Tuition

Tuition varies by length of class. Cost includes instruction, t-shirt, costume for the show, and one digital video of the recital.

According to the Central School HSA Bylaws Article 1; every participant is expected to pay whatever fee is associated with the particular event. There is no waiver of fees for individuals who are designated as a chairperson or volunteer of the event or activity. The only exception would be for financial hardship, and those requests must be made by the parent to the Co-Presidents of the HSA. Each situation will be individually considered by the Executive Board.

Tuition Policy:

  • Enrolled studentsmust participate in the recital as final dance numbers begin practicing in January.
  • Payment in FULL is required upon registration.
  • Late registration will not be pro-rated.
  • Tuition is non-refundable.

Program Communications

To expedite and simplify program communications, (i.e., schedule changes/cancellations, updates & reminders) we will be employing the use of email. Please be sure to indicate your email when registering for classes.

All correspondences will be sent from a NEW email address, please add the below address to your own contact list. New Email:

A Facebook page will also be set up to communicate timely information.

The website (CentralSchoolDance.com) will still exist for class schedule, dress code, important dates, etc.

Class Procedures

Arrival of Students:

Please be sure to drop your child off on time for class. There is an assistant at the front of Central School only 5 minutes before and after the scheduled class start time. After that, the front doors are locked and the main office is closed. Entering through the gym or any other door is NOT PERMITTED!

Absences:

If your child will be absent, please be sure to email the dance committee and the appropriate teachers will be alerted.

After Care:

All dance students that attend the Central School after care program will be escorted to and from their assigned class.

Dress Code

All dancers are required to wear any Central School Dance t-shirt and appropriate pants/shorts (ie. Leggings, sports pants) for all classes. Jeans, Jeggings, Skirts and dresses are not acceptable attire.

Hair must be kept out of the face and eyes. Long hair needs to be worn in a pony tail. If hair is not long enough, half-up will do.

Required Shoes:

Ballet: pink ballet shoes

Jazz, Broadway & Irish Step: black jazz shoes.

Tap: black tap shoes.

Boys & Girls Hip Hop: any sneakers during class. Black "Converse" style sneaker for the recital.

Accessories:

All Hip-Hop classes must have black kneepads, see link:

If dancers do not abide by the above dress code, the teachers will require them to sit out. Injuries can occur when not in proper attire.

Parent Participation

Parent participation is a REQUIREMENT of the program and cannot run without volunteers. Being part of this program is a very rewarding experience, and there are a variety of ways to fulfill this. Please see below to find the area(s) that might interest you. (Previous Committee Chairs will have priority to hold same position)

Scenery: Work with a committee to help design, create, set-up and remove scenery. Must be able to attend dress rehearsal and stay after show to remove scenery.

Concessions: Purchase items to be sold during the recital, set-up & clean up concession tables, and sell concessions before the show & during intermission.

Program Design: Use design software to layout, create and print the program for the recital. Solicit local advertisers to purchase an advertisement within program Distribute programs at recital.

Pictures: Work with committee to manage dancers on picture day and help hang pictures in auditorium at dress rehearsal.

T-Shirts: Work with committee to order, organize and distribute t-shirts to dancers.

Flowers: Committee organizes flower orders with parents and vendor, coordinates delivery and distribution on day of recital.

Boosters: Manges family messages for program

Tickets: Oversee ticket sales through designated web program

DVD: Coordinate videographer for dress rehearsal/recital and facilitate distribution of video

Costumes: Committee coordinates date to take dancer measurements, places order for costumes and sets up date to distribute costumes.

Room Monitors: Volunteer to monitor dancers during dress rehearsal or recital in designated classrooms. Help with costume changes and getting dancers lined up for performance.

Class Schedule

We are excited to announce some changes to the program. A Kindergarten Hip Hop class for boys and a co-ed Irish Step Dancing for grades 1-3 have been added. Pre-K Ballet has been eliminated as the program now only accepts students with a birthday prior to 10/1/13.

Classes begin the week of September 24, 2018. All classes will be held at Central School Auditorium. The class schedule is subject to change based on the Glen Rock school calendar and school closings. You will be notified of any changes.

Enrollment per class will be capped at 10-12 students (varies by class).
