TROOP 167 SENIOR PATROL LEADER RESPONSIBILITY AGREEMENT

Job Description:

The senior patrol leader (SPL) is the top leader of Troop. He leads the patrolleaders’ council meetings, the annual program planning conference, and any other Troop activity, meeting or outing. The SPL presents the views and needs of his Troop at these meetings and keepspatrol leaders, the Scoutmaster, and the Troop committee informed of decisions made.

Senior Patrol Leader Responsibilities:

  • Preside at all troop meetings, events, activities, and the annual program planning conference.
  • Chair the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) meeting once a month. Attends at least 80% of the PLC meetings occurring during his service period.
  • Appoints other boy leaders with the advice and consent of the Scoutmaster.
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to other junior leaders.
  • Assists with Scoutmaster in training junior leaders.
  • Promote active participation from all patrol leaders and their patrols.
  • Ensure Trip Plans are available and are distributed for all outings
  • Escalates any problems or concerns to the SM immediately
  • Delegates task to the ASPLs. Makes sure an ASPL attends any meeting/function he will not be able to attend (troop, PLC, Committee Meeting, etc.)
  • Oversees the planning efforts of Scouts for all Troop campouts (whether he attends the outing or not).
  • Oversee planning and involve youth leadershipin quarterly Court of Honor
  • Has good attendance at Troop meeting.
  • Attends at least 75% of the monthly events during his service period.
  • Be on time and prepared for every activity.
  • Alert the SM if you will be late or absent for any activity and arrange for a substitute.
  • Enthusiastically wear the Scout Uniform correctly.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Set a good example by having a positive attitude, showing Scout Spirit, and expecting the best from yourself and others.
  • Have fun and help other scouts have fun too.

TROOP 167 ASSISSTANT SENIOR PATROL LEADER RESPONSIBILITY AGREEMENT

Job Description:

The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader (ASPL) is the second highest-ranking junior leader in the Troop. He is appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader with the approval of the Scoutmaster. The Assistant Senior Patrol Leader acts as the Senior Patrol Leader in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader or when called upon. He also provides leadership to other junior leaders in the Troop.

Assistant Senior Patrol Leader duties:

  • Help with leading meetings and activities as called upon by the Senior Patrol Leader.
  • Take over troop leadership in the absence of the Senior Patrol Leader.
  • Be responsible for training and giving direct leadership to the following appointed junior leaders: Scribe, Librarian, Troop Historian, Instructor, Quartermaster, Webmaster, OA Representative, and Chaplain Aide.
  • Perform tasks assigned by the Senior Patrol Leader.
  • Actively participate in the development and execution of quarterly COH’s
  • Serves as a member of the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) and attends at least 75% of the PLC meetings occurring during his service period.
  • Represents the Scribe, Librarian, Troop Historian, Instructor, Quartermaster, Webmaster, OA Representative, and Chaplain Aide at the PLC meeting in their absence.
  • Attends at least 75% of the monthly events during his service period.
  • Has good attendance at Troop meeting.
  • Set a good example.
  • Enthusiastically wear the Scout Uniform correctly.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Show Scout spirit.

Job Description:

The patrol leader (PL) is the top leader of a patrol.   • Shares patrol member ideas and concerns at events where he is representing them.
  • Keep patrol members informed
  • Plan and lead patrol meetings and activities.
  • Promote active participation from all patrol members.
  • Helps each Scout in his patrol set an advancement goal and then helps him succeed.
  • Prepares the patrol to take part in all troop activities.
  • Responsible for attendance in each meeting or activity; which is then submitted to the Scribe.
  • Responsible for all head counts no later than one week prior to the event unless specified earlier
  • Attends at least 75% of the monthly events during his service period.
  • Be on time and prepared for every activity.
  • Alert the SPL if you will be late or absent for any activity and arrange for a substitute.
  • Work with other troop leaders to make the troop run well.
  • Know what patrol members and other leaders can do.
  • Wear the Scout uniform correctly.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Law.
  • Show and develop Scout spirit (encourage use of patrol flag and yell).
  • Set a good example by having a positive attitude, showing Scout Spirit, and expecting the best from yourself and others.
  • Introduce one new youth to Scouting
  • Have fun and help other scouts have fun too.

TROOP 167 TROOP GUIDE RESPONSIBILITY AGREEMENT

Job Description:

The troop guide is both a leader and a mentor to the members of the new-Scout patrol. He should be an older Scout who holds at least the First Class rank and can work well with younger Scouts. He helps the patrol leader of the new-Scout patrol in much the same way that a Scoutmaster works with a senior patrol leader to provide direction, coaching, and support. The troop guide is not a member of another patrol but may participate in the high-adventure activities of a Venture patrol.

Troop Guide duties:

  • Help new Scouts earn advancement requirements through First Class.
  • Advise patrol leader on his duties and responsibilities at PLC meetings.
  • Attend Patrol Leaders Council (PLC) meetings with the New Scout Patrol Leader (if applicable).
  • Prevent harassment of new Scouts by older Scouts.
  • Help Assistant Scoutmaster train new Scouts by older Scouts.
  • Guide new Scouts through early troop experiences to help them become comfortable in the troop and the outdoors.
  • Teach basic Scout skills.
  • Have good attendance at Troop meeting.
  • Attends at least 75% of the monthly events during his service period.
  • Set a good example.
  • Enthusiastically wear the Scout Uniform correctly.
  • Live by the Scout Oath and Law.

TROOP 167 QUARTERMASTER RESPONSIBILITY AGREEMENT

Job Description:

The quartermaster is the troop’s supply boss. He keeps an inventory of troop equipment and sees that the gear is in good condition. He works with patrol quartermasters as they check out equipment and return it, and at meetings of the patrol leaders’ council he reports on the status of equipment in need of replacement or repair. In carrying out his responsibilities, he may have the guidance of a member of the troop committee.

Troop Quartermaster duties:

  • Keep records on patrol and troop equipment.
  • Keep equipment in good repair.
  • Issue equipment and see that it is returned in good order.
  • Suggest new or replacement items.
  • Work with the troop committee member responsible for equipment.
  • Have good attendance at Troop meeting.
