Course Description:
Algebra 2 is a very challenging course intended to help students prepare for higher-level math and science classes as well as college. Algebra 2 topics include solving multi-step equations and inequalities, graphing various types of functions, factoring, and complex numbers. An SOL End of Course test will be administered and is required for this class.
Course Outline: The full Algebra 2 pacing guide can be found through a link from the school website. The following is an overview for each 9 week grading period, however the exact order in which the material is covered may be adjusted as the semester progresses.
1st Quarter: Equations, Inequalities, and Linear Functions
2nd Quarter: Systems, Quadratic Functions, and Complex Numbers
3rd Quarter: Polynomial Functions, Radical & Rational Expressions
4th Quarter: Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Variation, Statistics, and Sequence & Series
Supplies: You are to have the following items with you every day:
- A large binderwith separators. A section of this binder is for this class only and is to be used to keep all of your notes and assignments in order.
- Pencil(s) with black “lead”.
- Any assignment(s) from the previous class.
Calculators:
Calculators are available for classroom use and should be retrieved before the tardy bell. Calculators must stay in the classroom, however there are some calculators available in the library for checkout to take home. If you would like to purchase a graphing calculator, the TI-84 is highly recommended, as this the state-approved calculator for use during the SOL End of Course Test.
9 week Grades:
Tests:50%
Quizzes/Projects:30%
Assignments:20%
100%
Classroom Procedures:
- Students must follow and obey all rules set forth in the student handbook.
- Be respectful to the teachers, to the other students, and to any and all property that does not belong to you personally.
- Please be in your seat with your assigned calculator, your assignment from the previous day, and your materials on your desk before the bell rings so that you can start the warmup and we can start class on time. Cell phones and all other electronic devices and accessories (earbuds, headphones, etc) are to be silenced and stored in your backpack before the tardy bell.
- Unexcused Tardy policy: 1st tardy – warning and text to parents

Power School
Power School shows several things:
●Your child’s current grade in my class.
●The grades that he/she received on every Assignment/Test/Quiz in my class.
●The Assignments/Tests/Quizzes that are missing and/or were never turned in to me, or that were perhaps missed during an absence. (these appear on Power School with scores of zero (0)).
I am asking you to partner with me by asking your child about completing missing/late work.
You may view this information on the Progress Report online, by visiting the following web site and choosing “Create Account”. Additionally, by creating an account you will be able to see your child’s grades in every one of their classes, online, at your convenience.
