Global Science, RHS
Sept. 12-16, 2016, Week 4
Unit 1: Science and Measurement
Learning Intentions:
I am learning how to solve percent problems.
I am building an analytical balance and using it to create paper masses to measure objects.
I can read and respond in writing to an article about current science and technology.
Day / Activity / Success Criteria / Pre / Post /Monday
August 29 / Day 4 Notes: Percent problems with percent worksheet. / 1. I can use a calculator to solve percent problems involving symbols, decimals and fractions.
Tuesday / 3-D Printed Car Article
Percent Lab / 2. I am aware of current capabilities of 3-D printing.
Wed./ Thurs. / Day 5 Notes: Measuring Mass
Students will build a balance. Students will measure the mass of small objects using counter weights they create with graph paper. / 3. I can build an aluminum-can balance and use it to measure the mass of small objects accurately.
Friday / Binder Check
Quiz: percent problems, understanding mass units, 3-D car article content and vocabulary. / 4. I have a binder, pen, paper and a calculator in class. My binder is neat and the papers are organized by date.
Ratings: 4-I could teach it, 3-I know this, 2- I have heard of it, 1-I don’t know this
Practice Quiz: (show your work!)
1. What is the percentage of 12/30?
2. If you received an 80% on a 30 question quiz, how many did you get right?
3. If you received an 80% and got 50 questions right, how many questions were on the test?
4. Last year, 50% of the global science students were male. This year, 60% are male. What is the percent change from last year to this year?
5. Name 3 devices used to measure mass.
6. Name 2 devices used to measure volume.
7. Name 2 devices used to measure length.
