A Brief History of Our School
September 1, 1991 marked a very special day for our school, Terebovlya Secondary Comprehensive School No.3 officially opened its doors. Under a blue cloudless sunny looking sky, the podium was set up in front of the school, flags awaited their unfolding, guests arrived, staff and pupils patiently awaited to make their entrance and the grand opening began.
The celebration happened to take place only a week later when Ukraine had become an independent state. We are proud of having a first Ukrainian school in our oblast being erected in free independent country.
In the traditional Ukrainian manner, both Greek Catholic and Orthodox Priests offered the opening prayer and the school principal Ivan Pelo extended a very warm gratifying welcome to all present. Dignitaries and officials in attendance included many respected people of our district and oblast. Various well-wishers complimented the Nation on its achievement . The opening program included the staff introduction, many of whom were 'brand new', the raising of the flag and cutting of the ribbon by the principal and the Director of Sady State Farm Petro Sheremet that put up money for the school construction.
A week before, on August 25, 1991, and, it chanced to be held on the first day of Independence, the community of neighborhood Sady for the cost of their voluntary contribution erected the cloister of Lady Chapel opposite the school to commemorate the opening of a new building.
On such an auspicious occasion , one could not help but feel a sense of pride and hope for the future of this nation. Even Mother Nature showered her blessing on the celebration.
The year 1993 brought a new landmark in the history of our school, it was reorganized into the school with classes for profound study of English.
In summer of 1994 the school principal was promoted to the position of the Head for the District Board of Education and on August 1994, Vasyl Boyko was appointed new school principal who kept on gaining prestige and establishing unique image of the school
On October 14, 1995, the youth association "Sokoli" was founded. It embraces mainly the pupils of grades 10-11.
In 1996 the school was recognized as a basic district school on problems of military and patriotic training and concluded a treaty on collaboration with Military Unit A2847 located in our town.
Due to a keen promoter of our school, the Town Mayor Stepan Grod the school was donated with a modern desktop computer Pentium-133 along with all the necessary multimedia in 1997.
It facilitated a lot the work of the school staff and printable copies of teaching material became available.
On March 18, 1998 during the grand celebration the 55th anniversary of the Military Unit A2487 the pupils of our school represented a festive concert and complimentary address on the occasion, where the first Ukrainian astronaut Leonik Kadenyuk was among the dignitaries.
In September 2001 in honor of the 10th anniversary of the school opening, and thanks to the donated funds, the school vestibule was renovated and the walls were battened in modern euro design style. The school corridors, an assembly hall, some classrooms were repaired and redecorated.
The year 2002 was observed as a year of the scheduled election to Ukraine’s Verhovna Rada and owing this fact, a new computer classroom of 11 PCs arrived which was donated by sponsors.
On October 18, 2008, Ivan Pelo was officially appointed Head of the school again.
The staff of the school amounts to sixty-nine , which includes administrators, teachers, assistants, facilitators and maintenance staff. The school has an enrollment of 305 students ranging between the ages of 6 and 17.
Throughout the years the school has gained an excellent reputation for its high educational standards and the high level of achievement of its pupils The school encourages students to participate in competitions whenever the occasion arises.
The present-day staff and pupils aim to maintain this standard of excellence. In this we have the support of parents who take an active interest in the education of their children.
By decision of Terebovlya District Council #369 of March 6, 2009 ‘On District Program School of the Future’ , the school was nominated for implementing the Program.
On September 1, 2009 our school was rearranged into Terebovlya Comprehensive School of Levels I-III #3 Specializing in Foreign Languages.
