A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of James R. Dunn.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to our friend and colleague, James R. Dunn, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, James R. Dunn was born on September 30, 1927, a native of Grayson County, Kentucky, and longtime resident of Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on May 2, 2001; and

WHEREAS, James R. Dunn was the loving son of the late Leo Stanley Dunn and Viola Owens Dunn; he was the devoted husband of Carolyn Burkhead Dunn; he was the adored father of two sons, Steve and Doug Dunn, and two daughters, Deborah Wells and Laura Hausler; and he was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, James R. Dunn represented the citizens of the twenty-eighth legislative district with pride in the Kentucky General Assembly for twelve years, and serving as Majority Whip in the House of Representatives in 1982; his past achievements credit him with being an outstanding leader in the Jefferson County community where he was instrumental in community projects, such as building Jefferson Community College's Southwest campus and the former Southwest Hospital; and through his influence and guidance, Jefferson County realized numerous road improvements, including the beginning of the Greenbelt Highway, but he will best be remembered as a loyal member of the Democratic Party who fought for and achieved legislative independence from the executive branch of government; and

WHEREAS, James R. Dunn retired from Dupont with thirty-four years of dedicated service; he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Dupont Workers and a member of the Grass Roots Democratic Club; and

WHEREAS, James R. Dunn served his country with distinction in the United States Navy during World War II; and he was a devout member of St. Paul Catholic Church where his funeral mass was held on May 7, 2001; and

WHEREAS, the passing of James R. Dunn has left a void that can never be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of James R. Dunn, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of James R. Dunn.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Carolyn Burkhead Dunn, 5009 Maryman Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40258.
