Objectives
Developmentgraduateresearchcapacity(technicalskills)forbeginninggraduatestudentsinstructuralengineeringbyemphasizingandpracticinghowtograspideasinreadingtechnicalpapers,orlisteningtopresentations;howtoprepareabstracts,makepresentationsanddevelopresearchproposals.
Format
- Eachclasswillbebrokenupintotwosegments:PartI:Seminarorlecturebyinvitedspeakers,andPartII:Discussionsandin-classexercise.
- PartIwillbeopentootherstudents,facultyandstaff. PartIIwillbeonlyforthoseregisteredforthecourse.
- Studentswilleachpreparearesearchproposaltobesubmittedattheendofthesemester. (Eachwillfirstprepareaone-pageabstractandpresenttheproposedresearchtotheclass.)
