BRIEF HISTORY OF THE BOXSTER
The Porsche Boxster is a mid engined two seater roadster.
1996 The first generation Boxster was the 986 model it arrived in late 1996 powered
by a 2.5 litre flat 6 engine 0/60 mph 6.7 sec with a top speed of 149 mph.
2000 The base model Boxster was upgraded to a 2.7 litre engine and a new Boxster S
version of 3.2 was now available
2003 A facelift model with a glass back screen and also style and power upgrades on
both models was introduced
2.70/60mph 6.4 Top speed 157 mph
3.20/60 mph 5.7 Top speed 164 mph
2004 The introduction of the Boxster 550 anniversary edition. Just 1953 cars were
produced.
All were made in GT Silver metallic with cocoa brown interior or a grey interior
could also be an option
0/60 mph 5.7 Top speed 165 mph.
2005 Saw the next generation known as the 987 model with complete new body styling
and interior. The 987 shares only 20% of components of the 986.

2007 The 987 was upgraded. The 2.7 now had variable cam with 245bhp. The Boxster S
went from a 3.2 to a 3.4 engine.

2007 Also saw the limited edition RS 60 Spyder .Only 1960 units produced world wide &
each model has a production badge on the dash. Again the RS 60 only came in GT
Silver Metallic with the interior in either Red or Dark grey leather. There was also a
slight power upgrade and a sports exhaust added.
The was also a Porsche Design Model produced. Limited to just 250 units in brilliant
orange .It was inspired by the 911 GT3 RS.
2009 Both models were upgraded. The 2.7 went up to 2.9 and the 3.4 engine were now
DFI which raised output.

The new models could now be ordered with a 7 speed PDK Dual clutch gearbox.
They also received revised body styling as well as day time running lights.
2010/2011 Released in Febuary 2010 Porsche made the Boxster 987 Spyder. It was the
lightest Boxster to date with small weight saving measures deleting some
creature comforts. These could be added back if so required. The biggest
weight saving came from a manual roof giving a total weight of 1,275 kg
making the Spyder 80kg lighter than a Boxster S model .
2012 Saw an all new Boxster 981 3rd Generation Boxster. This came with a total
revamp including new body styling, engine chassis. and interiors.

2014 The introduction of the 981 Boxster GTS
Slight bumper revamps and an additional 15 bhp.
2015 The 981 Boxster Spyder unveiled at the New York Motor show
It contained a manual roof but much revised for ease of use.
Engine now grown to 3.8 litre with 370 bhp.
It included all new body styling but retained its trade mark twin rear deck
humps with larger brakes fitted to cope with the power upgrade.

2016 The Boxster 718 has arrived. It features two new horizontally opposed flat 4
Turbo charged engines. Available in a 2.0 litre version and a 2.5 version S
Increased torque and horse power with higher RPM and lower fuel
consumption.
The S model comes with VTG Technology.
2.0litre 0/60 mph 4.9 Top speed 171 mph
2.5litre 0/60 mph 4.4 sec Top speed 177 mph.
