ENHANCED DISCLOSURE & BARRING SERVICE CHECK INFORMATION

All licensed drivers are required to have a DBS check carried out every 3 years in order to satisfy Torbay Council that they remain a fit and proper person to hold such a licence. Without a current DBS check in place, we are unable to issue any licence to you beyond the expiry date of your current licence.

CHANGES TO OUR SERVICE

Torbay Council will no longer be carrying out DBS checks on your behalf as in the case of previous years. We have looked into the feedback and the costs for providing these checks and have decided that it is beneficially better for another provider to carry out these checks; this will result in an immediate cost saving for you.

WHAT TO DO NEXT

You require an Enhance Disclosure & Barring Service check, that covers you for working with Children and Vulnerable Adults within your line of work.

A local company called‘Anagram People’can conduct an Enhance Disclosure & Barring Service check on your behalf and they can be contacted on either,01803 290737 or 0845 6120 122. They can also be contacted through email – . They are a registered umbrella body who can carry out DBS checks in England and Wales and have done since 2004 (registration number 23692400000).

Or, alternatively, you will need to find another registered umbrella body that are registered to carry out an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check.

PRODUCING THE DBS CHECK

Once your DBS check has been issued you will need to produce the certificate to the licensing department so we can update our records, this will show that you have a valid DBS check in place for renewals. We are only able to accept a DBS certificate that has been issued in the last 2 months. If the certificate is older than this, you will require a new check. Please select one of the following options to produce your certificate:-

1 – Take the certificate to a Connections Office in Torbay and they will scan a copy of the certificate and forward this onto the Licensing Department.

2 -Post a copy of the certificate to the Licensing Department at Licensing, Torbay Council, C/O Town Hall, Castle Circus, Torquay TQ1 3DR

(Please ensure if you post the certificate to us, you send the certificate by recorded or special delivery as Torbay Council will take no responsibility for lost certificates. If the certificate becomes lost before reaching us, you will need top obtain a re-print of the certificate at your own cost.)

It may be that you have had a DBS check carried out for another role (i.e. school contract, fostering, scout leader), if this is the case, you will need to produce it to the Licensing Department so we can update your records. The check must be an Enhanced DBS, covering working with Children & Vulnerable Adults and be less than 2 months old since the date of issue.

Please note, it is the responsibility of the Licence holder to ensure that the DBS check is carried out in sufficient time, produced to the Licensing Department and in place for licensing renewals. Failure to follow any of the mentioned steps, will result in your licence lapsing and a new application having to be made. You will then have to adhere to all other requirements in line with Torbay Council’s taxi policy.
