Three students from Göttingen in Germanyon an exchange in Uppsala tells you about their university

“The Georg-August-UniversitätGöttingen” is more than 278 years old. It is a university of high international standing and well-known for its research-led teaching and outstanding scientific environment. Nobel Prize Winner in the field of Chemistry in 2014 is Stephan Hell from the Max Planck Institutes for Biophysical Chemistry in Göttingen.

If Chemistry is not your field of interest, do not worry. The University offers a remarkably diverse range of subjects. The campus comprises 600.000 m² and is spread all over the city, but everything is easily reached by bike or even by foot. In the north you find famous Institutes, likethe German Primate Center, the Max Planck Institutes for Biophysical Chemistry, Dynamics and Self-Organization, Experimental Medicine and the latest Max Planck Institute for Solar System Research. More in the South there is the Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the German Aerospace Center and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity.

Take a chance and travel around as Göttingen is located in the very middle of Germany. With your semester ticket you can travel for free to Hannover and Hamburg. In the very north you find a rough sea with beautiful beaches and great fishing culture. It is also a good place to get involved in water sports like sailing, surfing, kiting - to name just a few. In the very south, you find alarge mountain regionwhere you can go hiking or try skiing in winter time - of course not to mention playing football and drinking German beer.
