SONG: GOOD NEWS, GOOD NEWS

As this song is sung the Prophetess walks on stage from the left pews to the centre microphone.

Prophetess:A child is born to us! A son is given to us! He will be our ruler. He will be called ‘Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace”. His royal power will continue to grow; His kingdom will always be at peace. He will rule as King David’s successor.

This is the Good News about Jesus Christ, the Son of God, as the prophet Isaiah wrote, ‘God said, ‘I will send a messenger before you to clear the way for you. Someone is shouting in the desert, ‘Prepare ye the way of the Lord’.

SONG:LIFT UP YOUR HEADS TO THE COMING KING

Head Angel followed by other Angels come onto left stage. Head Angel goes to left microphone (near choir stalls). Angels stand around her. Joseph comes on to stage and stands just behind Mary’s chair.

Head Angel:This is how the birth of Jesus took place.

Joseph was a man who always did what was right. While he was engaged to Mary, Mary found out she was going to have a baby by the Holy Spirit. Joseph was very upset, and was about to break the engagement when an angel appeared to him and explained God’s plan for them, that Mary was to give birth to a son, and they would name him Jesus, Emmanuel (meaning “God is with us”). All this was to fulfil the prophecy by Isaiah.

Mary and Jesus move onto stage. Mary sits on chair holding baby.

SONG:SILENT NIGHT

Head Shepherdess moves onto stage to centre microphone. All other shepherds and animals move onto right side of stage around crib and Mary and Joseph.

At end of second verse of Silent Night, Wisemen and women enter from central door, proceed slowly wait at bottom of stairs onto stage until all shepherds are seated and then move onto stage and kneel at Mary’s feet holding gifts up and then place on floor next to crib.

Shepherdess:There were some shepherds in that part of the country who were spending the night in the fields, tending their sheep. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone all around them. They were terribly frightened, but the angel said to them:

Head Angel:“Do not be afraid, I bring you great news. This day, in the city of David your Savior was born – Christ the Lord. Go into the town. You will find the baby and his mother in a stable.”

Shepherdess:Suddenly the sky was filled with a great army of heaven’s angels, singing praises to God “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with who, he is pleased.”

When the angels left, the shepherds said to each other, “Let us go and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us.” They hurried off, and found Mary and Joseph, and saw the baby lying in the manger. When the shepherds saw him, they told them what the angel had said. Everyone who heard were amazed.

Wise persons stand up and move to centre microphone.

Wiseperson:Jesus was born in the town of Bethlehem, in Judea when Herod was king. Soon afterwards, some men who studied the stars came to Jerusalem from the east, and asked, “Where is the baby born to be the King of the Jews?”

Wiseperson:We saw his star when it came up in the east, and we have come to worship him. On their way they saw the same star they had seen in the east. It went on ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.

Wiseperson:They went into the house, and when they saw the child with his mother Mary, they knelt down and worshipped him. They brought out their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh and presented them to him.

SONG:WE THREE KINGS

Andrew and Kelly move back to stand at right side of Joseph. Lou Lou stays at microphone.

TempleNarrator:Joseph and Mary took the baby to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. They named him Jesus, the name which the angel had given him from the beginning.

Simeon and Anna walk onstage and kneel before Jesus, then get up and move to centre microphone to read.

Simeon:There was a man named Simeon living in Jerusalem, who had prayed that before he died, God would let him see the Messiah. When Mary and Joseph brought Jesus to the temple, Simeon took the child in his arms and thanked God, “Now Lord you have kept your promise, and you may let your servant go in peace. With my own eyes I have seen your salvation, and brought glory to your people Israel.”

Anna:There was also at the temple a very old prophetess named Anna, who worshipped God day and night. The very same hour that Jesus was in the temple, Anna arrived and gave thanks to God and spoke about the child to all, who were waiting for God to set Jerusalem free.

Simeon and Anna go to stand next to Joseph’s left side.

SONG:AWAY IN A MANGER

Mary:Dear friends, let us love one another because love comes from God. Whoever loves is a child of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

Joseph:God showed his love for us by sending his only Son into the world, so that we might have life through Him. This is what love is: it is not that we have loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the means by which our sins are forgiven.

Mary:Dear friends, if this is how God loved us, then we should love one another, God lives in union with us, and His love is made perfect in us.

Dear Lindy and Helka

Thanks so much for offering to run “auditions” for us.

The explorers and rockers will need to be separated off once stickers have been put up on roll. Close partitions. Explain to kids that we are going to read through script out loud. Allocate parts (if they nag you to do one, let them, explaining that it is not fait accomplice as it’s just an initial reading.) Once they have read through, confirm their parts, taking into account their preferences and what they did last year, so don’t repeat their parts from last year. Praise them lots for their wonderful reading etc.

Write down who’s taking what part on the attached page. Give each child a copy of the pageant with the letter attached confirming their parts and encourage them to practise lots so they do their best.

Thanks so much guys. Please also ensure that every child (or family) gets a green notice about St Andrew’s concert and tell them a bit about it. Try to get them excited about it.

Regards

Jill
