Dear all,
Thank you again for volunteering to host a table at the International Festival, February 3rd from 2-5pm at the Hardy School.
Please read the following document carefully.
Set-up
Friday, February 2nd: 6pm-7pm
We will have access to the gym to set up tables and to start decorating. This is an adult only event; no children please! Bobby (the janitor) has asked for no kids to be running around that night since we don’t have a permit for Friday night, just Saturday. Thank you for cooperating.
Saturday, February 3rd: 1pm
If you are unable to come Friday night, you will be able to get into the gym an hour before the event to set-up.
NOTE: If you are only dropping things off for display please do so on Friday evening if at all possible (Sweden, Switzerland)!
Tables
We are providing tables for the following countries. If your country is NOT on the list, but you do need a table, please email Doris at
Korea
Japan
China
Russia
Brazil
Israel
Portugal
Kyrgyzstan
Lithuania
Switzerland
Sweden
Gym Layout
I will send a separate document so you can see where your country will be located. Changes may occur. There will be space marked for your table on the gym floor and signs on the floor.
Country Passport/ Ink
On Saturday each country will receive stamps and ink for the passports the children are getting – you do not need to provide your own
Other things to remember/ consider bringing
★- Bring an extension cord if you need electrical plugs
★- If you are giving out food samples at your table in the gym maybe bring a small hand sanitizer
★-Bring a small trash can for under the table or tape a small bag for trash to the side of your table
★-Bring a (decorative) table cloth for your table
★- Decorate your table [e.g colorful table cloth] You may display photos, posters (you can use poster board or recycle cardboard boxes) , have a digital photo slide, artifacts, clothing, food samples, map, books/magazines with countries language. This is your chance to share the things you love about your family's culture with the greater Hardy community! Share information about foods, animals, languages, celebrations - whatever makes your country/ the country you are representing feel special to you and your family. Please make it age appropriate and community building.
★-Interactive components that will engage students and adults alike are encouraged, though not absolutely necessary. For example: simple craft, game, trying on clothing, smelling species, be creative! [For the Namibia table we will have a walking game -> balance a jug of water on their head to show how some people have to gather clean water everyday]
★-Please also keep in mind that, ideally, your table should be occupied for the entire length of the Festival. This can be a shared responsibility - we therefore encourage you to find friends/ family members/ community members who would like to help out.
Looking forward to a fun first International Festival,
Doris
