OLD BUSINESS
Election 2009-Randy Elde
Legal issues of photos on webpage-Ron Kammer / See report.
Did quick research-if someone takes a picture (personal) we can use it.
Courteous thing to do would be to notify person in it but it is not legally required.
If we use pictures from cities we need to get their permission. Issue is the owner of the picture, not people that are in the picture.
If you are using the photo to sell something you need a release to use a photo. / Ron will assist Linda to draft a guideline regarding use of photos on website.
Bring to retreat.
AADE collection of membership dues/membership approval-Pat Haldi / Pat attended treasurers meeting at AADE.
Get info from AADE from excel file.
Need passwords and log in names—each person should do this when they register.
There is a time lag between renewal with AADE and getting on website at WADE.
Could add way to let WADE know that you renewed and would be able to add information sooner. / Susie and Ron and Teri get together to arrange for AADE to collect dues for WADE when you apply for annual AADE membership.
Status of Survey Monkey-Jennifer Beach
By Laws vote-Linda Castine
Storage space-Kathy Magee / We have one thing in the storage space now.
Alternative-keep records electronically.
Who would scan and be responsible for saving of information? Will WADE buy a scanner and computer? / Bring things to store to the retreat. Kathy will take responsibility to bring things to storage facility.
NEW BUSINESS
Official vote on the proposed Karen Louise Goldstein Lecture Series-Pat Haldi / Family has decided to use WADE to honor Karen. Foundation to sponsor a speaker for the annual meeting. Anticipate that $20,000 will be used.
1% fee on balance per year is charged by AADE if we use their foundation to administer the funds. / Sub committee will decide the process with the family and will submit recommendations to the board.
Establish bylaws to manage Karen’s Fund-Linda Castine
2009 AADE meeting Mp3 files-Pat Haldi / 125 Mp3 files from AADE 2009 annual conference. Ron will put on website. / All members will be able to go to WADE website, view program content. They can then contact Pat and she will send that session to the member.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
President-Pat Haldi / See report
President elect-Jennifer Beach / Annual meeting committee has been meeting and has been progressing nicely.
Cvent was contracted to help with registrations etc.
November 7 is the board retreat. Will be at Chris Pelto’s house. Will brain storm, set goals and have some fun.
Newsletter-Martha Wells-Snyder / Please take some time and send Martha a newsletter article. Deadline-2 weeks after board meeting. / We are still looking for someone to do the newsletter.
Webmaster-Ron Kammer / See report.
August had nearly 1000 hits on website.
Job posting is the most viewed page.
2nd most was state of WA programs-education programs
3rd info on Karen’s fund
Directions to look at statistics are on report
Adding larger files to website-picked CME from Ron’s hospital and put the sound file up on the website. We may want to do our own sound files for the presentations with the slides from the annual conference. To access it is on the board members site. We could buy our own recorder for $200 and do this ourselves. We could sell it??? Or make it a benefit of membership? People want to see updated slides after a conference. We need to ask speakers for permission to put slides on website and hear presentation.
2010 has breakout sessions-attendees will not be able to attend all of the sessions-would be nice to hear presentations that you can not attend. Do we want to make it available only for members? For attendees of conference? For people who do not attend the conference for a price?
Lots of pros to have this available. Possibly even grant CEU’s.
SKYPE can be downloaded with no problems. May be a problem with downloading at work.
The website toolbox has the library of resources for members. / Jennifer is going to try recording a session to see how it goes.
Annual Meeting-Jane Tiedt / Good evaluations but expensive conference. Profit approximately $1000.00. Final budget not reconciled yet.
Funding from industry—25 vendors, one small business, 3 non-profit
Expenses for speakers from out of town-get local speakers next year.
No difference in charge for vendors-consider increasing this fee
Apply for grant from Sanofi Aventis that was not granted-their grant application is very extensive-need to focus on their objectives/criteria for education
Did get $500 grant from American Dietetic Association
Challenges: attendees signed up for dinner and also went to pham sponsored event—didn’t attend dinner-food was wasted
One drug company said they would not sponsor food just speaker—needed to address issue at conference and did get sponsorship with evidence of email commitment.
Banquet coordinator assumed that we would want wine, it was not ordered. We had to pay for it because it was served.
Banquet coordinator changed during dealings with Davenport.
Need to find a way to cut costs. Did increase registration fee from $150 to $175. Get handouts online if you want them-do not print them for attendees.
Do not print brochure-just do it online.
Treasurer-Kathy Magee / See report below
Legislation-Becky Petty/Shirley Vacanti / Pat went to legislation day in Washington DC. Got funding for chapter legislation chair person sponsorship. Becky and Shirley also went. Pat met with her representative for her region. That person did sign on to help sponsor the bill.

Public Awareness-Caroline Hudders/Teri Carpentier / Will send in fee for ADA Expo
School nurse organization will meet
Oct 16. at Everett Holiday Inn. / Call Caroline Hudders if you can do the school nurse meeting on Oct 16. Put notice on website to see if someone will volunteer or in newsletter. Caroline will do this.
Research-Brenda Montgomery
Member Benefits-Cindy Brinn
Bylaws and historian-Linda Castine
DPCP Liaison-Jeanne Harmon / See report. Jeanne has been very ill
Nominating-Randy Elde / Katrina resigned her position on this committee.
Randy does not know how long the bylaws voting needs to run. (Susie checked website-voting for bylaws should have closed on 9/10/2009). So far vote is almost unanimous for approval of electronic voting. We should be able to go ahead with electronic voting.
Randy was hoping to start online voting last week. Goal was to have more that one person for each position so we could have a choice. Has 2 strong candidates for president-elect and nomination. Secretary candidates decided not to run. New selections will return their decision to run to Randy tomorrow.
Will get bios on website and start voting soon after. Will let ballot run for 2 weeks.
Thank you to Susie for help with survey monkey.
Will want new officers at retreat in November.

WADE President's Report:

As president of WADE, I was invited to attend the June 15, 16 Legislative Day in Washington along with the state Legislative Committee Chair. Since WADE has two Legislative Co-Chairs, Becky Patty and Shirley Vacanti and funds were sufficient the three of us went to represent WA State. AADE paid the travel fees for two and the funds donated at the WADE Annual Meeting in Spokane in May 2009 covered the 3rd flight. AADE paid for the rooms and food was provided.

It was a very exciting and rewarding event. 75 AADE members attending this special event made over 200 visits to congress members of both the House and Senate. Becky, Pat, and Shirley Made contact with their district congress members. As a direct result of these visits, Cathy McMorris Rodgers signed as a con-sponsor for the house bill. WADE is very appreciating of the congresswoman's support as to date she is the single sponsor from WA STATE. As a result of WADE members doing such a great job of advocacy the language for CDEs to become Medicare providers of diabetes self management education is now in both the House and Senate's version of the Health Care Reform Bill. The chances are excellent that we will achieve this imitative.

In Aug. I represented WADE at both the president's meeting and treasurer's meeting during the AADE Annual Meeting in Atlanta. It was an honor to represent WADE at this meeting. I was awarded the AADE Legislative Leadership Award during the reception for AADE Volunteers hosted by the AADE Foundation. I was honored to have been nominated let alone to be one of the two winners. It means a great deal to me, as legislation is one of my key interests and primary reason for my initial service to the WADE Board and membership. You can access the newsletter here:

WADE also purchased the Audio of the AADE 2009 presentations given in Atlanta.

These will be available to WADE members via e-mail. Ron will post the list of tapes on the WADEPAGE soon. I will take care of the requests sending the file by e-mail only one at a time with handouts. The system is different from last year. There were many great presentations. I plan to do a write up about those that I attended and will request other WADE members who were in Atlanta to write comments about sessions they enjoyed. Hopefully this may stimulate interest in using this member benefit. The entire download cost just 150 for 125 sessions.

On September 8, 2009 I participated in the Chapter President Regional Conference Call.

This is a new networking strategy to open communications between chapters within specific geographical regions. WADE is part of the Northwest Region including Alaska, Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon, Puerto Rico, South Dakota, Wyoming and Washington. Not every state was represented in the call. It was helpful to hear what other state chapter are dealing with on the state levels. Many are just like WADE finding that funding for speakers and education offerings has become difficult to solicit. Very positive comments were given to WADE's Web page with questions on how does WADE gets such a current and interactive web page. Wadepage.com is a benchmark for many other state chapters. An up to date report of the DAD Accreditation Program was of great interest. There are already 40 sites having gone thought the application process and now have CMS Recognition. It was explained that the term "recognition" is the same as "accreditation". There are 14 applications currently being processed. This is a great opportunity for WADE members to start new programs. For more information, contact Pati Mangano at .

Appointed sub committee to research possibilities for the Karen Louise Goldstein Memorial Funds. Committee members are; Cindy Brinn, Linda Castine, Susie Wang,

Kathy Magee, and Lynn Holcomb. The committee will be making a recommendation to the board after review of the possibilities with the family. Since WADE is not a charitable organization, if the family requests, the funds must be administered by a foundation. My recommendation is to use the AADE Foundation; their offer is an admin fee of 1% a year of the principle. This is within the normal fee of 1-1.25% for most all foundations. The committee will bring the options to the family and then to the board at the next board meeting or by e-mail.
