Masquerade—What a Night—What a Crowd!
After months of planning, contacting caterers, entertainers, potential sponsors, TCSC efforts came to fruition on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
Masquerade! Paper faces on parade. When pianist, Annie Severson, came whipping around the corner of the marble hall all sparkles in silver and black, cape swirling around her gown, it was easy to imagine oneself in an earlier century when masked balls were more prevalent. The Combined Fund Drive Thurston County Steering Committee helped recreate the magic of that earlier time by hosting the first ever CFD Masquerade Ball at the Capitol Rotunda.
Masquerade! Let the spectacle astound you. Over 150 people attended the CFD Masquerade. Masks were simple, stunning, elegant, and even scary. The masked adventurers were able to partake of sweet and savory snacks provided by Paprika, C What’s Cookin, Bobby Jay’s, Bayview and Sharis.
The rotunda turned into a ballroom of elegant dancers gliding to the music of Pinneped and DJ Tom Mull.
Additional entertainment included Benjamin Franklin, who strolled among the crowd.
Magician Just Sage and Jusby the Clown entertained guests.
L&I group performed an apropos medley from the Phantom of the Opera.
For the more brave and adventuresome, Tarot Card reader Pam Couillard and Palm reader Deborah Greenwod were able to delight and amaze those wanting a sneak peek of what the future held.
Masquerade! Makes you glad! Makes you proud! The event included a silent and live auction featuring such items as an autographed Sounders shirt, holiday gift baskets, a tools package for the well-outfitted garage, and hand-made items.
The live auction featured a Ladies Present Basket worth $350; a Romance Package which included a motel stay courtesy of the Governors Motel, dinner courtesy of Casa Mia and theater tickets courtesy of the Washington Center; a Night Out package complete with Symphony tickets courtesy of the Seattle Symphony, dinner courtesy of Ivars and a Bracelet courtesy of Panowicz Jewelers; and a Wine Tasting Party donated by Scatter Creek Wines. The entire evening netted over $6,000 for the Combined Fund Drive.
