CIF LOS ANGELES CITY SECTION ANNUAL ASSESSMENT POLICY
Member schools in the CIF los Angeles City Section are assessed fees to cover the administration of the athletic programs at schools. The CIF Los Angeles City Section Assessment Policy includes three specific areas, with assessments made on an annual basis. These areas are as follows:
1. Administrative Fee (dues) for services provided by the Section Office
2. Sport Fees (per sport/level) to assist with sport specific costs
3. Playoff entry fees to assist with playoff expenses
Breakdown of Actual Assessments
1. Administrative Fee
The assessment of the Administrative Fee is based on the school’s membership status, enrollment, and the number of sports fielded, and was originally determined relative to the time taken by Section Office staff to service the students, coaches, parents and administrators. Since the total of the member schools encompasses a wide range, schools are assessed as per a three-tiered system.
Note: The administrative fee for a new member school for the first year will be $1,500. After the first year, the school will be included within the three-tiered system.
Tier One Enrollment of 1-300 students
Tier Two Enrollment of 301-550 students
Tier Three Enrollment of 551 students and above
Member schools that do not field any teams will be assessed an administrative flat fee of $250 per year.
Tier / Enrollment Range / Sport/Level Range / AssessmentOne / 1-300 / 1-5 / $1,000
Two / 301-550 / 6-13 / $2,000
Three / 551 and above / 14 and above / $3,000
Note: When the school’s data falls within one tier and outside of the other, the fees will be assessed as per the lower range.
2. Sport Fees
A. Sport fees will be assessed at the rate of $100 per sport per level for all schools. The sports of Cross Country, Swimming and Track will be counted as two levels, one for boys and one for girls.
Note: Schools have until schedules are finalized each season of sport to drop a team
and not be charged.
B. Associate Member schools will not be assessed sport fees, but the number of teams scheduled, along with school enrollment figures will be used in determining the tier assessment for the Administrative Fee.
Note: Associate and Full member schools that do not field any teams for the year will be
assessed a flat fee of $250
3. Playoff Entry Fees
Schools whose teams and/or individuals qualify to participate in the Section Playoffs will be assessed $100 per team sport and $10 per athlete in individual sports.
Assessments for playoff entry fees are only for CIF Section playoffs and championships, and do not include school expenses for CIF Regional and/or State Championships.
Playoff Entry Fees, CIF Los Angeles City Section
A standard fee will be assessed for each team and for each athlete participating as an individual, such as in the individual playoff tournaments in tennis, cross country, swimming, wrestling, etc. Although some sports are more expensive to administer due to costs of championship facilities, number of playoff rounds, game officials, etc., for accounting purposes a flat fee is assessed for team sports and for each student participating in individual sports’ playoffs.
Fees will be assessed according to the following schedule:
1. For budget planning purposes, draft invoices for Full Member Schools will be sent to the Principal and the Finance Manager in early April, with final invoices submitted in May. (Final invoices will include all playoff fees accumulated through the spring season.) Associate Member Schools will receive one invoice, to be sent out in April.
2. All membership dues/fees must be sent to the Section Office by October 1st.
3. A letter citing consequences for late payments will be sent out after October 1st.
4. As of November 1st a late fee of 20% for membership dues/fees will be assessed.
5. Schools with delinquencies will receive a notice of suspension by January 15th.
6. As of February 1st, membership will be suspended until fees are paid in full. No sports participation or scheduling will be allowed after this date.
