Thistle Gym

The Thistle Gym is a friendly and relaxed environment, in which you are able to improve your health and fitness levels, regardless of disability or health condition. The gym has a range of exercise equipment; from cross trainers, treadmills, exercise bikes and free weights to equipment suitable for you if you experience limited mobility or use a wheelchair.

To join the Thistle Gym you will be asked to fill in a health questionnaire and we take a photo for your membership card. The card entitles you to use the gym and must always be shown to reception before admittance.

Routine Gym joining fee is £30 for 1 year’s membership

OPENING HOURS : MONDAY-THURSDAY 8:15am-6pm and FRIDAY 8.15am-1pm

If you do not require support but would like instruction on use of the machines please come to the GYM INDUCTION session which runs every week from 4pm-5pm, this is a good time to talk to staff if you have any queries about your exercise programme.

If you need more support to start to exercise and have been referred by a health professional you will be offered a chance to meet with one of the health & wellbeing team and a 3 month free membership (there is a waiting list for this service).

We currently offer the following classes:

Tai chi and relaxation - Gentle movement designed to improve general health & wellbeing, can be done seated or standing. Followed by a guided relaxation.

Supported exercise classes - A low level circuit class adapted for your level.

Exercise after stroke – A low level circuit class for people who have had a stroke.

Seated exercise – a whole body structured exercise group done sitting in the chair

Pilates - Pilates aims to strengthen the body with particular emphasis on core strength to improve general fitness.

For all these classes a gym membership is not required unless you also want to use the gym.
