COURSEDESCRIPTION / ThisEMIcourseis designedtoprovideanorganizedtrainingopportunityfor localofficialsresponsibleforadministeringtheirlocalfloodplainmanagement ordinance.Thecoursewill focusontheNFIP andconceptsoffloodplain management,mapsandstudies,ordinanceadministration,andthe relationshipbetweenfloodplainmanagementandfloodinsurance.
COURSE PREP / Participants must complete the following online tutorials at (under “Other Tutorials” tab)
• Flood Insurance Rate Map tutorial
• Flood Insurance Studies tutorial
Whytakethiscourse? / Sincelocalcommunitiesplanfor,determineandsuperviselanduse, implementationoftheNFIPisdoneatthelocallevel.Thecoursewill give the localfloodplainmanageranoverviewoftheNFIP,andassistthemwiththeir day-to-daytasks.VADCRis hostingthiscoursetoprovidejurisdictionswith the trainingneededtomaintain astrongfloodplainmanagementprogram.
Fundingforthetrainingis being providedbyFEMA.
INSTRUCTORS / Thiscoursewill betaughtbyEMItrainedinstructorsfromFEMARegionIII. VA DCRFloodplainProgramstaffwill supplementthetraining.
TARGET AUDIENCE/DISCIPLINE / Localofficialsresponsibleforadministeringlocalfloodplainmanagement ordinances.Thecourseislimitedto 30participants.Preferencewill begiven tocommunityfloodplainmanagers.
