COURSEDESCRIPTION

ThiscourseisdesignedtoacquaintthestudentwithLodging Management. Thecourse encompassestheoryplusclassroomcomputerizedpropertymanagementsystemexercisesand simulationsincludingreservations,arrival,anddepartureofguests,nightauditreportsand proceduresforyieldmanagement,exceptionhandlingandreporting.

Attendance:

Punctualandregularattendanceismandatoryinthiscourse.Studentsareresponsibleforallmaterialcoveredin class.Valencia'sattendancepolicyisthatastudentwillbepresentforallclassmeetings.

Attendancewillaccount towards the 10%ofthecoursegrade. Asidefrombeingrequiredtoactivelyparticipateinclassand beapositiveinfluenceontherestofthestudents,youwillbegradedonyourattendanceinthefollowingmanner:

0-2 / absences / =100%fortheattendancegrade
3-3+ / absences / =0%fortheattendancegrade,resultinginareductionofonelettergrade
4+ / absences / =0%forattendance,resultinginpossiblewithdraworanFinthecourse

Twopartialattendancesarecountedasanabsence;e.g.twotardydaysequalsoneabsence. Apartialattendanceis definedasarrivingtardy,leavingearly,ornotbeinganactiveparticipantintheclasssession. Leavingafteratestis countedasfullabsence. Therearenoexcusedabsencesfromthisclass. The professor reservestherighttowithdraworfaila studentduetoexcessiveabsences,normallyviewedas4ormore.

Make-upExams:

Make-upexamswillonlybegiveninemergencysituationsprovidedtheinstructorisnotifiedinadvance(priorto theabsence). Uponapprovalofyourabsence,theexamwillbeplacedinthetestingcenter. Examsmustbemade upbeforethenextclassmeeting. Anytestmissedwillhaveanadverseeffectonyourgrade,andmake-uptestwill notbegivenunlessapprovedbytheprofessorpriortothedateofthescheduledtest.Proofofabsenceisrequired formake-upexams.

HomeworkandQuizzes:

Homeworkandquizzescannotbemadeup. If astudentisabsent,itishis/herresponsibilitytocontactaclass member,obtaintheassignmentandcometothenextclassmeetingprepared.If astudentisabsentthedayofaquiz, theywillreceiveazero.Lateprojectswillbepenalized5pointseachcalendardaylate.

AcademicHonesty:

Eachstudentisexpectedtodohisorherownwork,unlessotherwisespecified. Cheatingwillnotbetoleratedand willresultinanautomatic"zero"onthatexamorassignment.

Forobviousreasons,cellphoneswillnotbepermittedtobeusedascalculatorsorforanyotherreasonsduring exams.Anyoneaccessingtheirphoneduringanexamwillreceiveanautomaticzeroforthatexam.Traditional calculatorswillbepermitted,sopleasebringoneifneeded.Nosharingcalculatorswithfellowclassmates.If a studentdoesnothaveacalculatorheorshemayuseapieceofscrappaperforanycalculations.

Studentsmaynotleavetheclassroomforanyreasonduringexams.

StudentTechnologyintheClassroom:

Iunderstandtherearemanygoodreasonstohavelaptops,mobilephones,andotherwirelesscommunication devices. Manyofushaveworkandfamilyresponsibilitiesthatsometimescannotwaituntiltheendofclass.

Recognizingthatitmaybenecessaryonoccasiontocommunicatewithothersduringclass,pleasedonottext, email,surf, talk,oranythingelsewhileclassisinsession.Feelfreetoleavetheclassroomforamomenttotake careofanynecessarycommunications.If Ifind thatyouare"surfingtheweb"andarenotengagedintheclassImay askyoutoputyourelectronicdeviceawayfortheremainderoftheclasssessionand/orsemester.

WithdrawalPolicy:

ThewithdrawalpolicydateforthesemesterisNov13th. If astudentwithdrawalsbeforethedate,theywill receivea"W". Afterthisdate,thegradeassignedwillbebasedonthestudent'sacademicachievementinclassand theactualworkcompleted.

ExtraCreditPolicy:

ExtraCreditassignments,ifoffered,willbedesignedtoextendthemateriallearnedinclass. Extra

credit will always extendedtotheentireclass. Duedatesforextracreditwillbestrictlyenforced. Lateextracreditwillreceivenocredit.
