HBA of Kentucky
Fall Board of Directors Meeting
Thursday and Friday October 23 &24, 2014
Downtown Hilton, Lexington
Lexington in the fall is a magical time, whether it be the turning leaves among the horse farms, Keeneland and the horse races, or UK football. It is certainly the place to be in October.
And this year is no different at the State Board Meeting will be held right before the last weekend of racing and the University of Kentucky and Mississippi State Football game.
We have arranged for a visit from newly announced gubernatorial candidate James Comer, Tompkinsville, who is the current Agriculture Commissioner, and his running mate and Home Builder Association member State Senator Chris McDaniel, from Northern Kentucky. They will address the members of the Board on Friday morning October 24th.
“It’s exciting to have one of our own members running for Lieutenant Governor”, said Past President and good friend Mike Kegley. “I hope we get a good turnout to support Chris”.
We also have an exciting educational opportunity for all of our members. On Thursday October 23rd, we will host a two hour seminar entitled “How Green Might My Project Be”. This is a hands on workshop where you can put a current or planned project to the test. Designed for builders and remodelers, you are encouraged to bring your plans and a laptop or I Pad to put your project to the “Green Test”.
And for young professionals in the industry, on Thursday evening there will be a tour of the Town Branch Distillery followed by a trip to the Blue Stallion Brewery where, there are plenty of craft beers on display.
Enclosed you will find all the information you need to register for the HBAK Fall Board Meeting including the schedule of events and registration form. You may also register by going to our website at www.hbak.com. Looking forward to seeing you all in Lexington for the Fall Board.

Bring your plans, specs and laptop and join us for
This lively 2-hour hands-on workshop to put your
Project to the “green test”.
Who Should Attend: Builders and remodelers of single and multi-family
homes. Key trade contractors, i.e. HVAC, framers, insulation, electricians,
plumbers…. Especially key for builders and remodelers using Energy Star,
IECC 2012 or other energy-efficiency programs.
What YOU Get: Using your plans, specs and the NGBS Design Report, we
will determine what level of green you could attain with a current project.
We will compare your project to the National Green Building Standard™
and work with you to identify next steps to green certifying any or all of
your residential projects.
This workshop will also teach how to sell green and energy-efficient homes
using new language – the language of benefits. Benefits provide the emotional pull and provide a more direct communication with buyers. Learn to tie features and tech jargon with the benefits of the home.
With some work on the language – you can sell green and energy-efficiency
without ever using the word green.
The workshop leaders – Marla Esser and Phil LaRocque of Phil and Marla’s Great Adventure –
have had extensive experience in the green building industry, and want to
share their expertise with you!
Phil is a seasoned, award-winning NGBS Verifier, business solutions
provider and past HBA Executive Officer.
Marla is a Green Home Coach, who also works to provide sales and
marketing to builders, as well as a Master CGP. She is the creator of the
Green Certified Product HomeNav, an online homeowners’ manual.
