CONDITIONS TO CONSIDER BEFORE THE TRIP
Financing:
Each volunteer must cover their own expenses that are not included in the program, during their stay in Ecuador, including air tickets to Ecuador and expenses incurred during the days off. Volunteers need an average of $ 20 per week to cover additional expenses such as drinks, snacks, personal purchases, among others, preferably in denominations under $ 50.
Insurance:
Each volunteer will acquire their own insurance and provide a copy to the Program Coordinator, and must sign an agreement that exempts the Jocotoco Conservation Foundation from any responsibility for illness or accident in Ecuador.
Volunteer time:
The minimum duration for volunteers is 1 week, however, for the distances and costs we recommend doing it for a minimum of 4 weeks. In case the volunteer wishes to stay for more than 90 days in Ecuador, it is required to apply for a visa.
Professional requirements:
A prior university degree is not required. Potential volunteers should be interested in issues of conservation, biodiversity, ecology, nature and work with communities.
Other requirements:
The volunteer must provide his/her own preventive medical treatment (vaccines), being obligatory for yellow fever and optional for tetanus. To safeguard your integrity during volunteer work at these stations, consider that some vaccines require to be placed at least 10 days before the trip.
We suggest you bring:
It is recommended to bring the following items, however, you can also purchase them when arriving in Ecuador: Rubber boots, raincoat, flashlight, insect repellent, sunscreen (SPF30 to 50), swimsuit, glasses and ziplock bags
